Detailing Images onto your body?

Okay, well I've decided that when I strip everything off my Squire Strat to do the rebuild (Guess its a rebuild since all I'm keeping is the body?) I want to add some details (Or is it decals?) to the body.
I 'm wondering, whats the best kind of paint to use to just paint over the normal black finish?
What is the best method to mask of the area for painting? use light tape and a dust blank ,a stencil, Use masking lines via pinstriping, etc

Any info at all could be helpful, I'll post the designs I decided to chose from in here when there done for some input :D My mates going to help me, shes a real good drawer.
