Locking tuners

I have no experience with these things. Locking tuners. This '06 MIA Deluxe has them and I see the original strings that came on the guitar, have no wraps. So this is the whole idea of locking tuners? A quick change thing? I'm not sure I care for this sort of innovation yet....and wonder what ya'll think of these tuners. And if you were to change em out....what would you put on, that would be the best traditional choice....vintage appeal ...quality ect.

If they're on there because they are the best thing that can be on there. I'll keep em.

Thanks, and Happy Father's Day out there. Michael

I have locking machine heads on my two strats and love 'em- The theory, along with ease of restringing, is that with no wraps on the post theres less chance of going out of tune if you put the whammy to it.Also the way the string is locked into the post transfers vibration to the headstock more efficiently resulting in improved sustain and tone- I'd keep 'em on

+1 on keeping them on as you seemed to have decided on.

I have them on my CP 50's strat.

+1 on everything mentioned.

Now that I got 'em, I think about putting them on any guitar with a trem!

Generally speaking, it seems (to me at least) that the American Deluxe doesn't get all the fanfare it deserves. Seems the idea of once going up the latter past an Am Std. Strat that signature, vintage and custom shops get more focus.

This thread is a validation that the American Deluxe is worthy of more praise.

I've wondered about that because I may be a hack player, but have played a lot of guitars and if you take the noiseless pickups out of the equation they still seem like very nice instruments.

It helped that mine was used, mint, and at a super price but it's still absolutely wonderful. It stays in tune and the bridge works well compared to the cheap Strat I had and it plays very easily even though I like the thicker neck of my Tele and one of my Martins.

What comes to mind is how so many people want a retro sort of authenticity and that is not my Am. Dlx. Ash with it's pickups, hardware and shiny finish. Maybe I accept that because I feel I have no shortage of authenticity in my Tele and one of my Martins.

The tonal beauty of my Dlx. is how I do get authentic quack and also get tone more like a humbucker guitar.

Shhh... don't tell the traditionalists but the noiseless SCN pickups and superb intonation even have me curious about going to noiseless and compensated saddles with my Tele.

Back to topic: I'd have loved locking tuners the first time I ever changed strings on a guitar!

;)

I have a couple of strats with the Kluson locking tuners which look like your everyday vintage tuners but instead of that hole at the top, they have what looks like a flat-head screwdriver head. You turn this to loosen the string and tighten when you want to lock it. Seems to work for me........I also have a strat with Sperzel locking tuners and they have more mass which may or may not affect the tone!! (ask Eric Johnson!!). I like locking tuners but I also really dig the vintage kluson-type. Not crazy about the more modern Fender tuners even though they do work but the feel is different. (may be the gear ration??)
