Alright people I wouldn't be here if I didn't love my strats, but my tele has a special place in my heart too. It's only a month old but I can tell its the beginning of a beautiful relationship!!! It's an '06 ash MIM. Here she be.....

Funny you should ask. I happened to pick up an American Deluxe Tele in Candy Tangerine just three weeks ago. There's a long story to this one that I won't bore you with but ends up it was a special built for a local store upon acheiving some sales quota and was presented to the owner. This one has a real Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard on it. and the setup was just freakin' amazing.
I like it a lot.

Ooo that sounds like a sweet guitar man. Do you like the S-1 switching? I like it on my deluxe strat but I haven't tried the tele version yet.

yes, it's really worth every penny. It's a beauty and a keeper.
About the S-1 switching. Yes, I like it. It actually does make a difference in sound (tone? you be the judge) but I haven't had it long enough to know when to use it. I'm sure the better guitar players here would find applications really quickly, but I'm really a drummer who messes with guitars.
So far, I'm loving the heck out of it.

A fairly rare one, a Washburn Laredo. Made about 1200 of them in Chicago in the mid-1990s. Medium-fat neck, Wilkinson tuners and bridge, SD Broadcaster pickup set. Abalone dots, big smooth frets. Considering going to a tortoise pickguard -- more my style. Beautiful satin finish, and even factory-routed for a middle pickup (for a Nashville setup):

Well, 'cause you asked........

Well, 'cause you asked........

I have three Tele's and one Esquire in my little collection.

The Tele's are '56, '57 & a '58. The '56 & '58 are in their original cases. The '57 is in a '62 Brown Tolex case.

The Esquire is a '63 with a rosewood board.

And yes, they are incredible, especially through the old Marshalls. :-)

One of the defining tone combinations of Rock.

My 'favorite' tele is my only tele - a 2001 Nashville Power Tele Deluxe. Black, Rosewood neck, red tortoise pickguard (originally). I have since switched it to a standard 2 pickup layout with a 3-way switch and mint green pickguard. I just didn't use the middle pickup and wanted a more 'traditional' tele. It now has vintage noiseless pickups and I swear it sounds even better than before (besides the fact that it looks like a completely different guitar now - it's amazing how much difference a pickguard makes...).

Slinger,
Thanks! If you want to see the '63 Esquire, click on my WWW symbol at the bottom of my post. You'll have to wade through the rest of my junk in my gallery though.

They've been acquired over time from friends that needed money. The usual way it works!

Hey 64Strat -- I'd be happy to take some of that "junk" off your hands! You have a good collection going on there, and I'm officially jealous :D .

What is that pickguard? Is it white pearloid?

It's actually a creamy sort of aged-looking color. Very nice, but I'll probably replace it (maybe even a black one) and go lower-key. Of course, I haven't asked my wife yet -- she's generally my arbiter of decor decisions, but I thinks she doesn't have much of an opinion about this one.

TELECASTER NECK ISSUE

Its a Telecaster (Japan) '62 Re-issue Bigsby

Frets stop the string from vibrating when bending more than a half tone. This happens from the 10th fret and up. Ive had it set up, but the guy who did it said Ive got a "problem guitar". I havent lost hope though. Thinking it might be the neck, but Im no guitar tech. So please help me out if youve got a clue!

Was the guy a professional?? If so he doesn't sound like he was very much help! He should be able to identify the problem for you - instead of stating the obvious.

Ressurection Time!

It is time to resurrect this thread.

Here is my favorite Telecaster. It is a first generation Highway One. I shielded it, changed to a tortoise shell pickguard, added a Seymour Duncan Five-Two bridge pup and a DiMarzio Twang King neck pup. I may change the saddles to brass in the future but I am very happy with this guitar as it is. I think it is actually my favorite guitar right now.

This threads been dead since November! Lol, it's nice you're breathing some new life into this place Bob. Thats a very classy looking Tele as well. I love my Strats but sometimes the sound of Tele is just needed, the Tele definitely can get nastier than the Strats when I want it to...mmmmm

I hear ya' bro. I love my strats, but i sure love my teles, too. my other tele is a hamer slammer. it has a Gretsch humbucker in the neck, a dimarzio virtual vintage heavy blues in the middle and a Texas Special bridge. I have it wired so that i get the bridge and neck combination in the middle position. the Highway One Tele is pretty much a traditional sound and the hamer, well, not. So, i think i have my bases pretty well covered.

Bob

I have a 07 Cruiser by Crafter tc250 tele copy.
My wife just picked it up in May for my birthday.
The neck wasn't square to the body and it needed a reverse shim added to the neck pocket to get rid of some nasty upper register fret buzz.
But after setting it up I'll be darned if it isn't my fav. guitar now!!
I don't know if its the shape,or balance or the neck or what but it just feels "right"
And it just happens to sound just like a tele!

Bob - Yeah, thats cool, I'll have ALL my basis covered when I finally get the LP of my dreams (shhh).

mechanic - isn't it funny how a cheap "knockoff" type guitar can become a musthave, go to guitar? It really is proof that their are good guitars out there regardless of who made them, where they were made, etc.

60th Anniversary 'Inlay'

This is basically an AV 52 'RI' with nocaster pickups, a clear ash 'thinskin' (no plastic undercoat) nitro finish, and a fancy 3 wood recessed inlay in the body.

BTW, bek, that Washburn is great as is, don't blackguard it.

Bubbanov

No mods except a Glendale 'nocaster style' jack cup, so far.

After years of playing Strats, I had the chance to get a MIM Tele a few years back- a 1950's r/i. I have become a Tele fan as well as a Strat fan. I know that many are "either or" I am "both"-they both have their qualities that make them the guitars we all love. During a gig there are certain soings that just don't feel right on my main guitar ( a Strat) and I grab the Tele for a bit of variety.

AV 52 FSR superceded by this

No-Caster NOS.

But I still like the AV 52 FSR well enough to have a few.
