string tree position

Hi you all,

I would try to understand if there was some method or not in positioning the string tree on vintage strats.

A large part of them have the tree aside the 2nd tuner (A string) but I've seen some with the tree between the 2nd and the 3rd tuner...

Not that important, just curiosity...

Thanks!
Fabio

My guess would be that like many other things on early Fenders, there was no exact positioning standard
and that whoever installed the string tree put it where they thought that it should go on that particular
guitar on that day...

my '65 has it almost directly under the "A" string tuner, directly over the "F" in "FENDER"

I know this thread is dated, but I was talking with someone about this very subject just the other day. Certainly there were variations. Even going by where it' placed in relation to the Fender logo is hit and miss as the logos themselves varied. The better reference is the tuning peg posts which for the most part they most often can be found placed in line with the "A" string post as TJ mentioned.
