I have been doing that for years now - and gigging as a solo act makes it really easy to keep the volume level down.

Of course, it is cooler to have hearing protection rather than hearing aids.
Any ringing in the ears indicates some damage.
Unless your band can practice at between 85 and 90 db you need hearing protection to prevent...
