1977 Aria Strat with later Fender style headstock

    Or 19th Century guitars. The Austrian luthier Johann Georg Stauffer developed a headstock design in the late 1820s that had a scroll shape and the tuners all in a single row. One of his students was C.F. Martin, who eventually moved to the US and started making guitars that had Stauffer style headstocks.

    But Leo got it directly from Bigsby, so I have to agree with Fretmeltkid's 100% correct statement.

    No he didn't. This matter is covered in several book about that period.

    And anyway, that is NOT the point of this thread. If you do wish to start a new thread to air your controversial views about the early Fender headstocks, please feel free to do so. Don't derail this one.
