New to the site. Please don't flame me if this is a stupid question!

I have a 1987 E series Squier that originally had the locking tremolo from the factory (Kahler? Kohler? I can't remember the exact name...). I'm wondering how you measure the neck to install an after market locking tremolo such as a Floyd Rose. Guitar Center states in regards to :

"The Floyd Rose Original is produced in Germany and is their flagship model. The R3 Nut is designed for guitars with neck widths of 1-11/16" (42.90mm) and a 10" radius."

How do I know what size neck my ax has? I've had a mid 90's non-locking tremolo on it for many years, and it's okay, but VERY hard to tune after string replacement and the action is a little high.

    Thoughts or suggestions?

    TIA...
