What do y’all think of this project? A Texas Hot in the neck, and a Surf II in the middle. Or, should I go with all Surf II’s, or all Texas Hots?

What’s gonna be on the bridge?

I’m thinking of keeping the Super Distortion in the bridge. HSS.

I have the set of Antiquity II surfs and love them. Definitely a step (or three) up in quality from the MIM ceramics. I have no experience with the TX hots, but I'm sure either set up would sound good.

I like the Texas hot in the neck, no experience with the surfs. If it were me I'd go all 3 Antiq's, just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the help. Thinking of going with the Surf II’s. I’ve always liked a bell-like glassy strat tone.

I would think the Texas Hot would blend much better with the Super Distortion.
The Antiquity Texas Hot are a dark thick pickup.
I have Hots with a Duncan Screamin' Demon (bright for a humbucker) in the bridge.
The Surfers with a SD might be a pretty jarring transition.

I never found the Texas Hot to be dark or thick. They are just a little hotter than the Surfers, and slightly thicker, but not much- the Surfers are bright pickups.

What about a ‘59 humbucker in the bridge then? Or an Alnico II?

I know from experience that pickups are probably the hardest component to choose. Opinions vary greatly and videos are always misleading. So then you start crunching numbers of output and resistance and the like.....

It's a rabbit hole. Look past the hype and always go for quality.

Have you played a guitar with the Surf II’s?

Yes, my MIM has the set in it. It sounds like a strat should sound.

That is pretty much what I meant, the Texas Hots are hotter and darker than most singles.
Not that I am saying that as a criticism, they are quite possibly my favorite Strat Pickups.

I purchased the Antiquity Surf II, for the middle and the neck. I hope I enjoy them a lot.
