    Very good, closest so far: and my bad.. the band was Traffic (members Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi on drums, Chris Wood and Dave Mason) - in my hurriedness i was confusing the band with members of Cream (who had Ginger Baker on percussion)

    So that solves the confusion on the band...

    Ok it was kind of a loaded question; in old county (ie England, Ireland) he was a mythical character who resided in the grain used to make fermented drink, therefore by his passing the annual crop was complete; other legends say he was the tax collector who came every harvest time to collect taxes for the crown, thereby despised by the townfolk - you pick the legend

    And not everyone wanted him dead (gone.)
    Just the temperance movement of the time. Which was reportedly considerable.
