It may just be my imagination but since I took the back spring cover off my strat I've noticed an improvement in tone, especially on the neck pickup with distortion.

    Is this even possible?

I've read before that some players thing there is a difference. I never remove mine so can't comment on it.

Eric Johnson famously thinks so. I'm not 100% convinced myself, but take em off anyway, prefer the look.

Mine is off, only because I dont want to remove it every time I change strings. Its just easier with the cover off. And it looks cool :)

The key is to find a pre CBS ,vintage cover--------put it on----------then take it off.

Why yes it is! A BR 163, I love it! Threw a Fishmann Matrix Infinity inside and it's my go to gigging guitar if it's too scary a venue for my Martin's ;)

Leave it on 5 min for a Hendrix tone or 3 min for a SRV tone. Then make sure you screw it to the side of the front horn for the "Holy Grail" tone. Then Screw it to the back of the headstock for the unique thing screwed to a thing tone. Finally, screw it to the kitchen table for a really pissed off wife tone.

I'm just slightly too young. I remember "The Wet Head is Dead" and the "Simple Pleasures are the Best" ones. That one was soup right? I think. Oh, and of course the" Buy the World a Coke" one
