I just bought a Gretsch Boxcar a couple weeks ago, then I see this Paul Beard Decophonic on Reverb. Love the Gretsch, but it's a spider bridge reso. The Beard is a biscuit bridge reso, made in my hometown, so, that was that. Made an offer and got a screaming deal. It's in mint condition.

The Decophonics are a fairly new line from Beard, made in their Hagerstown shop. They're built in the style of 1930s era Dobros. Birch laminate body, no sound well inside, very plain looking. Kind of like what Collings is doing with their Waterloo line or Martin with their 00-17. Workmanship is flawless.

I don't think I've ever been so thrilled with a guitar purchase. The intonation is great, the tone is old school, and the sound just explodes out of it.

    Pics, of course:
