    Hey all,

I have been offered a Blackie strat, its in average condition (well played!!), which I am happy with as I am one for a relic!

It has the case etc and sounds beautiful, but is has a few dings to it and the fretboard looks well worn; where the maple laquer has gone it almost looks mahogany like underneath.... Worried me a little.

The only other thing is that it has been refretted with jumbo frets...

£500 is what he is asking, what do you think?

I currently have a 1991 strat Ultra which I love, amazing piece of it!

    Kind regards

    Rob

Welcome to the forum - what Blackie do you refer to? The real relic custom shop one sold for THOUSANDS....so I'm puzzled why it's being offered for 500 quid....and skeptical....

Or...is it just a regular Clapton Artist Series Strat with poly finish that has been relic'ed by previous owner?

    Do you have photos?

I would pass at that price only because the fret board wear doesn't appeal to me.
If possible you can play it to see if the condition adversely affects the play ability.

I dont have any photos yet...

But it is one of the Eric Clapton Artist Signature Strats I guess the RRP now would be about £1800

It does play very well.... It is not that badly worn, I probably should have explained better. I feel that £500 is a pretty good price for it.. I love the mid boost!!!!

I had a Clapton Artist Series and sold it because of the tiny frets - I would say larger ones if done properly would be an improvement for most players!

Condition affects value so if it's really relic'ed 500 is about right.....if it was in mint condition it would be worth about 1000-1200

1800 new doesn't turn into 500 used. Something doesn't add up.

Need a lot more details and pics.

In sure Page's tech would be thrown up the red flag if there was a problem with authenticity. I see this is a couple weeks old, did you buy it?

Sounds cheap to me, if a Clapton artist strat is what you want then go for it.

Personally I wouldn't want one, I've played a couple and hate the noiseless pups, plus the mid boost doesn't do anything special for me.

Enjoy your Clapton Stratocaster. It looks great. I have a 2005 edition that looks great and plays even better. Have some fun !!
