Does anyone else have a carved top Stratocaster? These were designed by Gene Baker, John Suhr and John Page and built in 1995-1997 by Gene Baker. Mine is #188.

It's beautiful, I do remember those! I kinda like the Dual Showman too.

My goodness. That is the kind of strat that makes me want to buy "just one more" and I'll be satisfied. Kicked a lot of habits in my life but collecting guitars is by far the most addictive one I have faced. And With guitars like yours, I think it is totally understandable. Absolutely awesome.

    Jim,

    I don't know why you wouldn't think it's a CS instrument.

I have a few custom shop guitars in Fender, Gibson and Martin,

I think he meant he doesn't think his own guitar is really CS.

Good Lord, you have some awesome guitars, @Rock and Reel !

    Good Heavens! That is impressive.
3 questions-is that a Tele Elite under the Rick’s poster. What brand hat is that? Where did you get it?

Nice one; I think I've only seen one in person, and it was a trans gray/black that didn't show the top as well as yours does.

I didn't know that Gene B. and John P. had input into this one; I always assumed it was pretty much all John S. bringing it to Fender from his previous days at Pensa-Suhr (the Pensa-Suhr MK model). That being said looking at it now (24 years later) I can see that it is more "Fenderized" than I was remembering them, clearly indicating the influence of John P. and the Fender hands.

Suhr had an interesting pathway to Fender - he started out as Rudy Pensa's repair/luthier at Rudy's Music Stop; he assembled quite a few instruments out of Schecter parts when Rudy's was an early Schecter dealer, then they did their own Pensa-Surh line. John left Rudy in early 1991 and went to California to build amps with Bob Bradshaw (the Custom Audio Electronics amps); then he joined Fender for a few years before going out on his own.

I like wearing hats even back when I had hair. My fedoras are from Golden Gate Hat Co. They've made hats for movies and TV since 1923. You're right about the Tele, it's an Elite and my favorite player. It's not a traditional Telecaster but it's crazy fast and passenger friendly! Here it is with my Buck Owens Limited Edition (my only non-USA guitar), 50th Anniversary #766 of 1250. I special ordered the pearl white Tele with tortoise binding, pick guard and Rosewood board.

Here are arguably the two "coolest" pieces in my room, my Bose L1 Model II with double bass, if you've never tried one you should treat yourself and my Marshall mini-fridge! No self-respecting man cave is complete without one!

Reminds me a bit of SRV's Hamiltone although I am not sure that one is a carved top..

The closest thing to that I ever had was a MIK Fender Showmaster Scorpion. It was a set neck with 24 frets and a carved arch top. Really nice player too. I just didn't play it much so I traded it in on my Squier Contemporary HH Active. That one gets a ton of play time on it.

It's not my idea of what a Strat is... an "idealized" version if you will. Not that I'm remotely interested in getting one, but I'd be more likely to get a Suhr or Anderson, since that's what it really represents to me.

That said, it is nice... just not my idea of what a Strat is suppose to be...

Not "quite" a Strat but it was Fender. I had this carved, gold top setneck Showmaster.
