Anyone had experience with replacement necks from Aliexpress?

Bought a cheap 2nd hand Affinity from CL, love the thinner body and light weight feel but hate the very thin neck. Neck feel makes or breaks a guitar for me. On a tight budget (haven't told the wife yet) so I purchased a replacement neck from a highly rated seller on Aliexpress. At £36 for a Chinese vintage gloss rosewood neck I thought, why not.

The specs state its thicker (22mm), so fingers crossed. I'll report back once it arrives (may take a month!). Anyone else tried this?

You might do what I did and look around for a silly cheap Bullet or other Squier and do a neck swap.

Neck arrived today. Shocked at the quality. Comparing to the stock affinity neck it’s a hundred times better.

It’s made to fender specs and is finished really well. A few minor spots where the clear gloss has been marked but it’s fatter, wider, has nice rolled edges and smooth and crowed frets.

Might need some minor sanding to fit the pocket but that was to be expected.

At $40 this is a steal!

Pictures to follow if anyone’s interested.

    I'd like to see pics.

    Does the truss rod work?

Maybe post a link to it as well. I'd like to check it out. I was also looking at necks on guitar fetish's site.

Aliexpress, being known copyists and fakers, links to their website are a no-no in polite society.

It's an on-line retailer for small Chinese manufacturers, isn't it? I just took a look at their web site, and it seems to be packed with knock-off gear from multiple sources, including the usual Chibson fare. I've heard so many bad stories about guitars arriving that were nothing like the pictures, I would go nowhere near it, but if the OP has sourced a better neck for his guitar, I'm pleased for him. An unlicensed Fender-style neck is hardly a hanging offense!

    AliExpress is just like Ebay.

Hundreds of thousands of different sellers, each selling their wares from tiny screws to giant CNC machines.

And just like Ebay, some sellers sell bootleg stuff.

Hey, it's good to hear that you found a great replacement neck. I'm looking for a 22 fret one; would you mind sharing the link to the seller or the store name?

Does it have 9.5 radius? That makes or breaks it for me too.

On principle I agree 100% but have to admit, when their knock off is better than the real thing, who do you get mad at?, lol.

How many companies have made imitation Strats over the last 70 years?

How many of us here brag about our Springy Sound?

Any patents on the original Stratocaster expired 50 years ago.

As long as they don't put a Fender logo on it, I'm cool with it.

Hopefully this works. Not a knock off just a after market Chinese neck.

    Pictures to follow.

Yes, but the headstock shape is a registered trademark of FMIC, and cannot be legally used without permission.

Of course, but I see tons of "close enough" headstocks on Strat clones everyday.

If you need the exact headstock, you will have to order a licensed one from Warmoth or Allparts or make a template and modify it yourself.

Here is a $43 Strat clone from Walmart.

The headstock is not 100% perfect, but close enough for most beginners, and different enough to keep Fender from crying.
