Not expensive but you only get 3 screws on your neck plate...

Heh... perhaps the rumour that "CBS" stood for "Can't Buy [a 4th] Screw" actually is true!

    :D

I’m close enough I could go get it, but what are the odds that a deal like that, if it’s legit, lasted more than 10 minutes.

...also, he’s saying he’d take PayPal, money order, or cash (in person or by mail).

Pretty country down there, I lived in Ladson for a couple years as a child.

This... But also it is a '78. You think they would make it at least pre-CBS! Someone had a similar posting to this locally but with a mid 60s Stratocaster a while ago. Same weird notes for payment (e.g., money order, paypal). I emailed and called, only to find it was a scam.

Someone find out if this one is real!

May not be all original with the white plastics. Should be all black for a 78

Neck, tuners, body, case, and bridge look legit. Pickups at least have flat polepieces, which is promising. Pickguard and knobs aren’t original, but a lot of these got white plastic in the 80s. (A lot of them got Kahlers, too, which is a lot harder to put right.)

If I lived within an hour’s drive I’d at least go look at it... and I’d bring cash.

It is IMO. I dont buy the crap that Suhr has never played a bad sounding heavy guitar. I dont even like my les pauls to weigh over 10 pounds. A ten pound strat no thanks.

Good catch! Maybe it's just had the plastics changed, but that would probably mandate pulling the pickguard to check the pickups (just to be sure).

Yeah, that makes me think the seller might be someone who buys and flips stuff (and may have acquired the Strat in an auction or estate sale)... which might be good, or bad, I suppose depending on the individual and if the Strat indeed is in really good shape (and all-original besides the plastics).

The more I look at this thing, the more I think it’s probably all original under that pickguard. The polepieces look right, and even dumb little details like the screws holding the switch look completely original.

I'm thinking the seller might not be an expert on Strats and simply is trying to unload it... he knows it's worth at least what he's asking, but my gut is that he might would take less if someone showed up with cash.

Very very possible. More than once I've seen a guitar bought well because the person selling it simply needed $X to make a payment or to buy something else. If this guy owes somebody $900, that might be the whole story (and the final selling price).
