that is a nice price. if it was over here, I would have it in my hands by now.
I’ve been in contact with the seller & not positive it’s passing the smell test, no name or phone - done through email & I don’t think he has possession of it himself. Selling for his brother! Like I said - not feeling all warm & fuzzy over it. Pics show nice guitar, but at least 40% chance of scam maybe more or less!
Well, you never know these days! I'm gonna email and see what kinda response I get to compare.
It likes like a new nut and refret.
The finish on the fret board boards looks messed with also.
Hmm... it does look like that is the case upon further inspection.
EDIT: it really looks like it's had a re-fret and re-shape of the radius (looks flatter than 7¼").
GO GRAB THAT FILTHY ANIMAL!
Could be a $900. Gamble & when someone won’t even tell you their name & wants PayPal through friends & family so no 2.9% fee, & no protection if it is a scam.
Could be on the up & up, but something a little fishy. I just bought a guitar from down south, the seller called me talked for a while & he suggested I do PayPal, with shipping included so as the $ wouldn’t be released until I received the guitar or at least the box.
Even that way - no guarantee there would be a guitar inside!
Read the whole CL add.
He says he would do a cash, in-person deal.
That is the only way to go anyway.
How can you tell that just from a photo? That’s like thinking you’re talking to a hot woman because of how her voice sounds.
Of course, if you do have a method for eyeing up guitar weight via a photo, I’d love to hear about it!
If I was local to him that would be a different story, but I’m 10 hours away from him, & to me, my gut feeling, is - too much of a gamble for me - I just dealt with a gentleman from SC & we talked - I felt completely comfortable dealing with him. His full name, phone # & we talked for quite a while, he suggested how we could do the deal & safely for both of us. He even mentioned taking it to his local music store as a 3rd party, for an evaluation of the guitar. To a place I could get the number off the online contact info & call them.
This Strat seller didn’t offer to call me & speak man to man! - & in the end this is at best top dollar $1500. Guitar, than start subtracting for non original case, so now $1400. Than if the bridge isn’t original or some other parts. More deductions. & say it is a 10 lbs Strat, now how much is it worth? This is all IMHO!
Could be totally legit, probly is, but I just don’t feel comfortable with it.
It's a scam.
Pics stolen from this site:
Anytime someone on CL says Paypal, it's always a scam.
Wow - those are the pics of the guitar this guy is selling, wow - great catch “vid1900”
I thought something didn’t smell right!
looks like an ash body...most ash bodys are heavy...
It was nice under the pickguard! And that’s an X-1 in the bridge. Ah well.
Fair enough. I buy that.
It was 8.6 pounds
Thanks vid1900 so much for uncovering this... scammers suck in the biggest way.
MODS: feel free to delete this thread since the linked CL ad in my original post is a scam. Sorry folks!
I'd leave it just for the lesson:
If a CL ad says Paypal or Moneygram it is ALWAYS a friggin' scam.
Great investigative effort
