Yes indeed. I try to be absolutely rational about this. In the days when my hearing was a little better, I could tell the difference between two otherwise identical Strat-type guitars, if the neck was swapped between a rosewood board and maple, or if the body wood was changed. But the thing is, those differences were tiny! @Ronkirn has said this enough times, but the performance differences are so insignificant compared to the variables in room acoustics, amp settings... whatever. Personally, I like to play an electric guitar that is quite loud acoustically. I like to hear the instrument itself 'ring'. Especially on bass guitar, I prefer a bit of 'bounce' in the strings, such as you might get from an acoustic instrument. However, I accept that these are my preferences, and there is a limit to how much of that translates to the listener.
