Went to get on the internet on my laptop this morning and no matter what browser I choose it crashes within seconds. I have scanned for the usual. Did a few tricks in command prompt. Nothing has worked. Thought I would ask the crowd before I kill it.

    Kill it
Then get a fiber optic network and tell me what router works with it!:D

Seriously, if you haven't shut everything down... router, modem, laptop, and restarted... that's my favorite 'go to'.

    id reformat before killing it.

then once the reformat fails, I would toss it out the front window then toss some light fluid on it, spark it up, remove my pants and dance around it. this normally fixes all computer problems.

What OS and which browsers did you use?
We need those informations at least.
I think the most possible is an error with INet drivers (your LAN connection).

    All the best,
    Robin

yeah, re install the os. that is normally my go to if something isnt working properly. its normally rarely a hardware problem, and almost always a software problem.

the thing that sucks about reformatting is the obvious, you will lose all your stuff. so back it up somewhere before you start the process.

That was my fix all if nothing else works also. Wipe the drive first then install os. I am good at that. But something has to be the cause somewhere. I didn't use it much yesterday, then today ...pow.

You could try doing a system restore to a point before the problem cropped up. Cures many a messed up system.

No, first reinstall the driver for the WiFi Router. That could solve all of your problems.
    Deinstall the driver.
    Reinstall the driver.
    Reboot the computer.
Most of the drivers are installed and found by Win7 itself.
I would deinstall and then trying to reboot the computer.
Unless it is a very unsual WiFi router you should get the computer up and running.

EDIT: try the restore like @CigBurn mentioned above, before if you have a close enough restore point saved.

    All the best,
    Robin

If you said yesterday zero problems and today you have them it could be a Windows update. Do you manage to look if Windows install any updates today?

If so, that could be the cause. The System Restore @CigBurn mention would work if this is the case, the problem is that the update will be back again sometime.

Also try Event Log to check what is the error. If its the network card try @Robins suggestion :) Hope it works out.

Aside from what everyone has suggested...

For future consideration: Setup your computer to dual-boot with a Linux variant of your choice (Ubuntu, Mint, etc.). That way, if Windows ever goes south for some reason, you can still access your files, the internet, download stuff, etc., and possibly fix things in a way that you cannot if only using Windows.

    Good luck!

If you tried a system restore and it suddenly has no restore points to work with, that is a common sign/symptom of browser malware.

I think your laptop is telling you to start your weekend early...it's trying to do you a solid! :)

When I've run into weird stuff that may be virus related, MalwareBytes has always gotten me out of the hole. Otherwise, yeah, OS restore, which sucks.
