Both of these are near me at $600. Seems a no brainer to me (in favor of the American Deluxe) but the new one sure is pretty. First is a well used 2012 American Deluxe Mahogany Strat with a black headstock. HSS with Tex Mex and Diamondback pickups. Also comes with a case.

Second is a brand new 2018 MIM Player Series that's been upgraded with 57-62 pickups and Kluson tuners. The original stuff comes with it. Admittedly I have a hard time paying almost full price for a used guitar even with the upgrades, which I actually do consider upgrades.

If it were me, I would take 600 bucks and buy an assortment of Epi LP studios, SG specials and LP Jr.s. But that's me.

Yeah, no. I passed on a really clean bolt on Epi SG with a fitted hard case yesterday for $90. Just didn't feel it. I've got $1000 to spend but trying to not spend all of it. I could build a killer partscaster for $6-700 as well.

That creamy color on a Strat is irresistible to me... Goes so well with a maple fretboard. Plus she must be a real player. I'm not particularly a fan of 22 frets and narrow spacing on strats, but in this case I could easily live with those things.

    .

I don't get along with HSS Strats. So the SSS would be a better match, or plan on swapping loaded pickguards. I mod SSS with the Armstrong Blender which works best for me, blends into HSH but also keeps classic singles.

For me, the mahogany body is enough of an odd duck to make it desirable to me.

I seriously don't think it matters that much, because you're gonna flip it anyway (no offense intended, just probably true), so get the one that you can make the most on, which surely, is the American Deluxe.

Well if it was me and I had $1000 to spend, I would dip into my stashed money and buy both.
It wouldn't be the first time and it certainly won't be the last time.
    I like them both!

I would go with the mahogany body, if you don't already have one.

That's just how I usually judge a new purchase.

I have that buttercream player. It’s a great, good looking guitar, but overall quality must be better on American Deluxe of course. Take attention to the fret finish and neck pocket.

What I'd do if I couldn't decide between guitars is go for the one that's most different from what I'd already got. If it helps, I'd go for the mahogany one. :)
