Seriously, this was the best I could get with the cell phone, any ideas on recording for a newbie to recording? I’d like to get something inexpensive that I can use with a mic. And do multiple tracks on that doesn’t require a computer.

What do any of you think of my routines? I’m thinking of doing the delay bit when my sone and it play out, and do it with a band, the driving part in E. My son will probably play bass. Compositionally does either piece have any appeal. My son wants to do this. He thinks it’s tops, but I’m not sure if anybody else will.

I thought the end of the first video you posted sounded great with the pedal tone and the delay.
    Loved the etude !
    Thanks man
Now I’m going to start tinkering with delay

You must like Brian May. Some of the tones you were getting were seriously starting to sound like his Red Special playing through his AC-30s.

Thanks man, I should probably add what I played it on. And the amp was my Mesa. It actually can do everything my old AC30 can and a lot more. image.jpg

Just awesome. I love the sound of the Red Special.
I have only got the cheap Brian May guitars model but I really love it. Maybe someone should tell Brian to use a MesaBoogie xD
    Great videos.

    All the best,
    Robin

Please go to the Brian May club page and post some pics or clips of you playing it. I had one of those and I wore it out, then I sold it. I also like the early Burns models as well. I’m thinking of getting a green BMG and put Addisons TriSonics in it.

I see where those great tones were coming from now. Serious envy here. But in a good way. I'd love one of these but sadly lack the skills to ever justify it. Maybe one day...
Which one is that? Seeing that axe and hearing your tones, I imagine you've read Dr. May's book on his Red Special? It was fascinating.

What were your amp settings if I may ask?

I will take a photo. The distortion and delay were from a pedal. I went into the clean channel with the amp set on 10 watts.

Oh yes, I read the book. My guitar is from Everett Wood at RSCustomguitars. Brian May's sound with that guitar is purely Magical. I was also able to get the Flash Gordon tone, battle theme/The Hero from my Mesa and from my buddies old Marshall dsl 40C. The Mesa can cover Vox, Marshall sounds easily. But if I really want the News of the World tone, I use my Greg Fryer Brian May treble booster plus. That's the blue one, and hit the clean channel. Sounds great on Its Late.

These Fostex MR8-HD 8 track recorders come up fairly inexpensive on Ebay.

They have a built in 40g hard drive, so it's basically a portable, digital, recording station that works like a tape recorder. Very easy to use, and it has been an invaluable piece of kit for me as a writer. You can record 4 tracks at once, and then bounce them to channels 5 and 6. Then use the rest the same way. So it's really a 12 track digital recorder after bouncing down twice. I think it will hold up to 29 songs and I have had mine full and never used all the memory.

It also has 48v phantom power for your condenser mics.

Just make sure you get the one with 4 busses at the top. The one with only two uses sound cards instead of having an internal hard drive, and is a little bit more of a pain to deal with.

Take a look at the Zoom H1n. It does decent recordings and your can overdub. It also has line in, line out, and USB. I can record a drum track, play that back on an amp or stereo system, then overdub bass, guitar, keyboards, etc..

I also took it to the Popa Chubby show in January and got a very nice recording.

It's under Club Forums owners clubs. I'm sorry I don't know how to link. Look under the forums tab at the top of the page.
