Yeah that's kind of how I feel as well.
Out of all my influences, when someone asks me who I most sound like, I say Neil Schon. I'm a fan, but I've never bought an album he played on.
This is kind of a tough question @sam_in_cali
It's really hard to narrow down to three.
I flat stole from everybody, still do, like a gangster. But try to incorporate it into my own style.
Wanting to get fully to the point with less notes and more heart-felt content.
Hendrix, PageBeck, RhoadsVanHalen
^^^^^^ see what I did there 3
But I am in no way as good as them
who I think I sound like
who I sound like
When i first seen this thread i thought about it and i have just given up, difficult.
Interesting question, but too many great guitar influences that just pass the torch to us.
Especially if you've been playing most of your life.
You can really only come up with that by listening to what other people say about your playing.
I really can't or shouldn't do it.
Duke Robillard, Herb Ellis, and Ana Vidović...
Close but no cigar.
Well...maybe not as close as I'd like to think.
The three players that influenced me the most were probably SRV, Hendrix and Brian Setzer. I even named guitars Steve, Jimi and Brian.
No Santana? Woodstock ( well at least Greg was there)?
Pretty sure Neal was on my favorite Santana song:
Jimi, Jerry and Neil.
Experimental like Jimi, jam oriented like Jerry and able to rock acoustically to electrically.
I play like crap, but I aspire to play like;
Personality wise I can only go by what I've read...
I wish I could say Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young, Robert Ward.
That's a really tough question. The easiest thing to do is to list musicians I admire and wish I could emulate, but these arent the ones I actually sound like. So... Sticking to the OPs actual question, I mostly sound like...
Captain Sensible (Damned)
Ross The Boss (Dictators)
Ron Asheton (Stooges)
Of course I don't claim to be half as good as any of these talented fellas but stylistically, this is about where I land.

believe it or not my playing cannot be described as an amalgam of three players who were each significantly more skilled, talented, and better looking than i am
Paul Simon, Mark Knopfler, Doug Dillard.
