IMG_0386.JPG IMG_0387.JPG New, unfinished Bakelite pickguard arrived today. It's just stuck on in the photo above, not actually mounted. Opinions varied about whether white or black would look better, but now with these photos for comparison, what's your vote?

It's purely a subjective decision, brother.

Personally, I've always hated plain white pickguards, and I installed a perloid guard on my Red Strat, many years ago. But, I think, in your case, because the finish on the guitar is so light, somehow it just works.

Black would be more high contrast, against that light guitar.

    What floats your boat more?

Have you considered, possibly, a clear, unfinished pickguard? I'm not even sure they make them for the Tele's, but I'd probably go that way, if the choice were mine.

Beautiful Tele, by the way :). Probably looks great, under the lights!

I like them both myself but black looks the best I think.

White makes it look better I think. Black seems dull to me, white brings out the tan in the color much more.
With the black guard, on stage, nobody would be able to tell if your guitar is just plain white or not. With the white PG it contrasts nicely.

I like the white with that body color, very sharp.

    I like black on BSB

White is a little too 70s for me. My 2006 is Desert Sand with a black bakelite guard. Looks a lot like the photo above.

I like both. Put one on and when you get the itch for a new guitar, just swap the pickguard.

Good mix of opinions. For me, the black makes the body color seem darker, more like coffee with cream. I also like the way black ties in the bridge pickup and black position dots.

I've decided to finish the Bakelite for maximum blackness and gloss. In its unfinished state it doesn't jibe with the gloss body.

I’m an all black pickguard guy for my black and red strats, my tangerine, red and sunburst teles, and yellow Les Paul. But in your case, and for my aged oly white strat, I say white pickguard. Classic look.

    But black works too! :whistling:

    I like both
I think if I was playin country I'd go for the white
If I was playin R/R or blues I'd go black
    Good luck

Can't go wrong with either one...
Keep the screw driver handy and periodically change them out.

Both are cool, but I prefer white on that color.

Let's see, blackguard Tele? People would think it was a plain Jane butterscotch.

White bakelite wouldn't be quite so brilliant white as it aged, but would make it look less butterscotchy.

Which one sounds better? What kind of pants are you wearing? Just kidding, if i had to choose I'd pick black but to me they both look good. Swap them out every once in a while just to keep it interesting ;)
