Body wipe down, fret board grime cleaning, do you clean your guitars? With what, and why?

I talked to one of our church guitarists last week and he let me check out his 60's butterscotch blonde tele. He said "it wont bite, and it's all my dirt lol."

Thing was grimey but still cool. Mike was on tour with several country artists at one time and is a fantastic player, and today he let me play his 72' tele custom.....same condition. He said hes changed the oil in his truck then grabbed his guitar and played gigs...I believe him. Is that how most people are? I mean I'm not obsessive about Cleaning up my guitars but I do clean them from time to time. I wonder what you guys do, let the dirt build or clean em up?

Mine get a decent cleaning every string change. (4-6 weeks). And a new used gets a hardcore cleaning within hours of coming home

We clean guitars with Naphtha (sometimes called "white gas" in Euroland)

    Safe for nitro or poly.

Then because Naphtha removes all the wax, we wax them with Blitz One Grand non-silicone wax Blitz has a bunch of UV blockers in, so you often see it used in museums

Not so much but I’d wash my hands if there was motor oil on them before I picked one up.

Yup. Necks get cleaned at string changes. My Gibsons get a drop or two of Guitar Honey, my Fenders get a damp cloth. Bodies also a damp cloth or a light car wax if they have heavy smudges

Yes, routinely. I am far from a relic guy. Guitars are used, but we'll maintained. Guitar polish, polish frets and wipe down all the hardware real nice.

When opening the case, love the getting "wowed" feeling when opening the case. Kind of like a "NGD"

I'm at a point on my classic vibe tele that it's pretty smudgy and grimey. I guess I'll keep cleaning it, i usually clean the board with naphtha and oil it now and again. The body gets a damp soft cloth.

I'm glad to know the general consensus does clean'em up now and then.
