I called them and asked them how they authenticated that guitar. They said it was based on their years of experience based on things that 'looked right' but there was nothing concrete they could use to judge and if I questioned them on that I didn't need to be their customer.

    Here's one....

It would have to be one of the necks from either a prototype or from one with the serial number stamped into the trem cover.
    Gilmore's neck is 6-54.

Strat # 0100 on the team cover has a Jan '54 neck date.

The date on the body of #0100 is 4-54 and #0103 is 5-54. The TAD stands for Tadeo Gomez the same man as TG.

Yeah, as production ramped up he had to shorten his tag to TG to save time :D

I was kidding about him changing his tag. Possibly a random thing. He was signing teles "TG" a few years earlier:

Wayne! I just noticed this thread was open for business again. :whistling: This guitar you have pictured here, 0103 . . . isn't that the one that the 90 year old man sold to Sam Ash a year or two ago? Where do you continue to come up with these old Strats? Amazing! Keep up the good work!

It might be T G F. I never keep track of where I found them. My little notebook is filled with other facts about the guitar and not enough room for that.:) unless it was a famous musician that owned it before.
For example that one #0103 also has a neck tuner changed and the trem plate is cracked.
Neck dated: 1-54 TAD and the Body dated: 5-54.
Plus I have a good forum member friend that helps me search the web for new ones that are not on our lists.:thumb:

I saw a January '54 Strat at The Songbirds Museum in Chattanooga last weekend.
The body was made of Spruce. Confirmed to be a Salesman's Sample.

    Hello all,
My last contribution to this thread dates from mid 2011, and sure its has been a long time since I was active on Strat Talk. In the mean time I have dedicated most of my spare time to an oldtimer car and put guitars on the back foot. Well times rushes by, an oldtimer car comes and goes, and just a month ago I was dragged into guitars again by my daughter who asked me to repair her Stratocaster, which I could not refuse.
So that brought me back to guitaring etc.
As some of you might remember I was working on a book on the earliest Fender guitars. Well that book (a try out copy) has been finished in the mean time, and I am working on several subjects to correct and improve.
A picture of the cover of the book is attached.
Well I will be joining discussions again and hope to discover more than I already know.

Hi Geisha, good to hear from you. I have been working (with the help of others, including Wayne) on the Strat 54 registar. Can you contact me through private message and I will send you the excel file with the almost 390 entries of 54 Strats ?

Geisha, that's great new to hear you are back online here, thanks for the great job you did all the time!!!
In these year I did collect any informations about 54 Strats myself, I was able to get also some inside informations,
and prove of guitars that ended up as partcasters lately, very sad. If you need also this kind of details, just send me PM.
I hope one day we will be able to order your book, just GREAT!! Regards
