Those aren't pre production. So called "pre production" ones had the serial number stamped into the plastic trem cover. They started with no 100 and finished around 107 or so as far as I know. Those with serial numbers on the neck plate are considered production strats. I would love to see pics of those two though

Fender didn't invoice a Stratocaster sale until October of 1954. Everything before that was either a prototype or a promotion unit (as I understand it). So pre October seems to be Pre-Production almost by definition. I understand that these guitars are not of the first run, but lots of this thread is about this era of guitar.

On page 3 a list was started with known '54's. That's what lead to my post.

    I own 0570 and a friend owns 0469.

I'll post some pics of each.

I own 0570. It's bookended by 2 guitars mentioned earlier in the thread. Jimmy Bryants 1954 Black S#0571 and the Eldon Shamblin 1954 Stratocaster Gold (oxydized) s#0569.

It has had at least 2 body refins and the neck has been oversprayed. Most of the electronics are not original. It lived through the 1970's as a touring players guitar, so she had a hard life.

It's also the best guitar I've ever played.

0469 was the first '54 I ever played. I may have seen/held a '54 at a guitar show as a younger man but I don't remember them as anything but a vintage guitar.

I'm a recording engineer and years ago a client of mine found a producer that brought enough budget to go to a proper studio. (I worked from home then) The producer, Paul, brought in his '54 #0469 and we used it on the album. The players were excited, the guitar sounded great, and both of those led to great performances. I have worked at that studio from that day. I've done several projects with Paul and that guitar always shines.

I've never taken 0469 apart but I believe it to be primarily original.

Thanx for sharing these summer 54 ladies. Very nice ...... interesting also Tadeo signing with tad instead of TG like on the first Teles. Regards

That confused me too. I've not seen one like it. It "blacklights" exactly like 0469 and Gruhn's gave it the thumbs up.

It would be interesting if along with the guitar we documented the weight. I find many '54 strats to be quite heavy, while only a few lighter like one would expect.
