Like telling one person only that the party is fancy dress. :sneaky: "Why is Grumpy Kevin dressed as Donald Duck?" "No idea, mate." :D

I used to know a sales guy who went to a trade show in mainland Europe with a stack of appointments to see clients on their stands (booths to those of you in North America). He forgot the one hour time difference, so tuned up for every meeting an hour late, and couldn't understand why no one had time to see him. To make things worse, he wasn't apologising for his rudeness, because he didn't know.

@simoncroft just reminded me of a tale from 64...
Worked at shop in Santa Rosa CA...
They sold Triumph, Anglia, Borgward, Citroen, Volvo...
    We had a salesman...
A French guy, fresh of the boat and maybe turnip truck...
    He was a paper hanger....
Didn't know or perhaps care about the nuances of the checking system(gotta have cake in the bank)..
    Hauled up to the Judge...
    Got fined...
    Paid with a check...
    And
    And
    And
    You can guess the rest....
Only thing left to say is some sage French Witticism....

And here I thought that the US was the only place stupid enough to believe that one can control the rotation of the planet, and its orbit around our star, indeed the length of a day...

By moving the hands of a clock forward or back.

Something similar happened over here when the armed forces introduced payment by cheque/check (this is many, many years ago). More than one member of the forces thought they were being issued with a book of Magic Coupons, then when the bank wrote to say they were overdrawn, simply wrote out a check to the bank!

Here we just got back to the ''normal'' time (clock went back an hour). I dont know why they insist with this stupid idea. as if it was possible to have any more or less sun in Brazil. There's just no way. The sun only exists because he likes to fry us all in brazil. He even works overtime for that purpose. When the night comes, it's just the time the sun needs to come up the next day with a better plan.

Spouse number one was in banking. She shared a story, legend really, about...

When magnetic ink bearing account numbers was first introduced on checks and the deposit slips, an enterprising gentlemen had the bright idea of tearing out the deposit slips in his checkbook and putting them into the generic deposit slip tray inside the bank. On the premise that most people won't look at the form they've been regularly filling out year after year.

He got caught. But only because he made the mistake of the greedy; he called the bank just before closing and asked what his balance was.

The person who looked it up immediately noticed that the account activity and the balance was outside historical norms for that person. The ensuing investigation took all of 30 seconds...a review of the day's deposits.

Had he waited one day, the deposit slips would have been destroyed and there would have been no physical evidence proving his shenanigans.

Apparently his balance had gone from a modest amount to an extraordinary amount. But instead of retiring to a tropical paradise, he received an all expense paid stay in a federal hotel.

My wife still gets asked occasionally to transcribe audio recordings of fraud interviews to documents that can be quoted in court. Some of the frauds have gone on for almost a decade, and are often remarkably unsophisticated. Greed is often how these people are caught out.

Sadly, opportunity knocks, but temptation keeps leaning on the doorbell.
