I rescued this video from a dying computer today. This is a clip of some solos from a gig in 2012. Besides playing an assortment of tunes I might get to play these if they are called. Anyway here goes nothing..,. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1IRjPfj3DE
I thought I blew it. I heard a little Journey in there too. Dang man, I miss when pop was good. I was just thinking about Morris Day & The Time last night. And you guys was talking about Sheila E.
we used to do all that stuff. We even opened for The Time once. Possibly the last great funk band.... I seen them blow Prince off the stage back in the 80's. Shelia E. was a top studio rat way before she got all dolled up and became a pop star. We just a big cover band but sometimes I think we remind people of what a real band was...
Awesome !!! Your band rocked & there was everyone having a great time on the dance-floor. Would have been good to have been there ! Really nice playing & tone by-the-way ! Cheers, Rastus
thanks Blue..,actually it was our second gig that night... we did a private party from 7:00pm to 9:30pm... Drove about 30 miles and did this Festival from 10:30 to 12:00.,,, everybody else found time to change... I still had my coat and tye from the first gig...
Back in the day, it seems like some of the very best musicians on the planet were playing in funk cover bands.... Electgumbo, that was awesome ! 2nd gig that night, too. Wow !
Lakeside Thanks for the "Fantastic Voyage". Gimme a nice side of Boudin....and I'm good (Ville Platte). I'm feeling it EG! Last "great" funk band? Prob, Mint Condition. Can't think of too many that could top the "Time". Straight musicians that could stretch a pocket like no other. And with a killer guitarist still doing his thing solo .
I guess I missed the memo that anything had changed... When I grow up I still want to be a Funkadelic!
That's not to far from Ville Platte... That's in Port Barre. I respect your opinion but I can't agree. The Time were Monsters with a Capitol M!
Actually EG, I totally agree with you. The original lineup of the TIME no longer exists as a unit. There were replacements, but nothing like the original core. MC comes out of the same Minneapolis camp, only one non-original member. Are they the TIME? Nope. But they are the "last" (IMO) great funk bank out there. Funkadelic? Two words......Eddie Hazel.
