Sorry everyone, I've had a real nightmare of a month and haven't been able to pay much attention to this. I still won't be able to do too many songs, but will def learn a few.

I am having trouble comprehending the spreadsheet at present. I am happy to fill in any gaps needed, but I don't know what instruments are in which songs - I doubt very much that any of these have 2 rhythm and 2 lead guitar parts! In other words, I have no idea what the criteria are that would make any given song being "good to go".

I put myself down for The Boys are Back in Town, God Save the Queen, London Calling, and it looks like I'm already down for All Right Now. Also added myself to Holiday. Is there anything else that needs filling in on? I'd put myself down for Holidays in the Sun, too, but looks like it would just be me and Andrea acapella :D

Edit: added myself to Not Fade Away and Paper Plane, since they seem to have everything but guitar.

That's great @alainvey - whatever you can manage. Shall we try and duel Boys are back in Town? I was doing the high bits and @s5tuart the low. Maybe you could have a go at the low bits?

Ok, added myself to Johnny B Goode, and changed the tunes that were red to green, as I think they are now good to go.

I should be ok to learn all of those.

That was to be my next question! Thanks, I'll do the low bits :)

Good stuff! The 'good to go' category is for those songs that have achieved the bare minimum of players needed to perform the song. It doesn't mean no else is welcome!

Well I have some tendonitis on my fretting hand so am going to have to forgo practicing guitar and bass for awhile... hopefully it’ll get better quickly and I won’t have to remove my name from anything... but lets keep expectations low...;)

From my side, Math and I are fixed definitively on songs. The only song where my name stay on it with a "depending my talent" is long train running. I try try and try but it is difficult. Maybe i will ready on 10th ...or not.

I'm glad to hear it's nothing more serious, hope it clears up soon for you.

Johnny B Goode will be fine, though I would appreciate someone else to chug along with! Probably not going to learn the middle 8 solo, hope that's ok. I'll of course learn the band unison parts, but the lines here I will probably just make up on the spot.

Just trying to sort a couple of things: I don't want Matt to waste his time on stuff we're not going to play, so will tell him to not bother with that. I noticed that All Right Now is red but is probably good to go - is that right, or is Simon "vox 2" for a reason?

Sorry, I just want to be able to tell Matt which songs not to bother with.

@nutball73 Do you want to do the little fill that happens every so often on the second bar of the A chord?

Err - probably (not sure what you mean!)

Do whatever you like, I’m sure it’ll be fine.

I think in general we can do most of the songs but we have a shortage of vocals- that may be the bigger challenge.

Coaching before songs or throughout the day seems like a good idea. Appreciate any help!

Oh no! I hope we haven't caused you to over practice. Whatever caused it, please take it easy, because it's not worth doing yourself further damage over what is really a social event. It is starting to feel a bit like there's a 'curse of Euroguestock 4.5' at the moment... Apart from the stuff we all know about, Hazel had an ear op today to remove what may or may not be a melanoma.

As far as I'm concerned, we're all of us perfectly entitled to stay – or as far off – previous versions of any of these songs. For instance, there was a cracking version of Hotel California one time that sped up like Freebird at the end! There's a world of difference between putting your own stamp on a song and playing largely free-form jams, like a bad tribute to Cream.

I don't know if you've noticed, but I can't really sing in any meaningful way. I can give the impression that I know what I'm doing, but my sense of pitch is very approximate at times. All I was going to do on Alright Now was football-crowd choruses to add a bit of energy. Ditto Substitute. I've been trying to get a mate who can actually sing involved. He's really interested for the future, but it looks unlikely for this one.

Looking forward to it. If you don't quite get the rhythm to Long Train Running, we can still play 'our version'. :thumb:

    You got it. :)

For the sake of not losing some great songs, and not wishing to waste Matt's or Math's time on uncertain material, I've put my name down as lead vox on an embarrassing range of songs. Who wouldn't grab at the chance to be compared to Eric Burdon, Mick Jagger, Jim Morrison, Phil Lynott, Jon Harvey and Paul Rogers... all on one day?

The only reason I won't do that on Substitute – no matter how much I'd love to be compared to Roger Daltry – is it really needs a three-part vocal harmony in places, and even the verses rely on a two-part harmony at the ends. However, if anyone else wants to learn one of those vocal parts, we might be able to perform it.

We are now 'green' on 28 numbers, and I think Sam was going to maybe come up with original jam ideas?

This is starting to look more like a day's worth of material. :thumb:

I'd really like to do a couple of the acoustic numbers too.

Also bear in mind @CaroCrousti and Marc haven't confirmed yet. @alainvey - fancy being Felder to my Walsh on Hotel California? I'll try to nail both parts but it gets a bit tricky at points!

@simoncroft - you said you can tinkle the ivories? Fancy the synth bit in From The Beginning? It's only Keith Emerson after all...;)

GP thinks it’s De Quervains. I’m still going to see a specialist next week.

I've just read up on that. It seems to be a variation on Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, but affecting the tendons going to the thumb. Best to rest up those hands until you have a clearer picture, I think.
