I don't remember writing this. Must have been having a frustrating time. :D :D

Joe Blow records some stuff. Doesn't sound as good as his favorite records, sounds a little dull. He adds some highs. Sounds better, but a little thin. Adds some lows, sounds a little better, but a little hollow. Adds some mids, sounds a little better, but still sounds kind of harsh. He adds some reverb, sounds a little better, but now he notices it's clipping. So he turns down the levels.

Now it sounds a little dull, so he adds some more highs. Better, but a little thin, so he adds some lows...

Repeat until 2am, go to bed, and wake up to find that the "improved" recording sounds like a vortex of ****.

ive found the best recordings are kept simple, without adding a bunch of crap.
kinda like the guys that have 847 pedals on their boards......enguage all those pedals and its gonna sound crap.

Meh, I like crap. Simple recording, relatively few tracks and then HAVE SOME FUN!!! ADD MORE CRAP!!!

to me, recording is just as much of an art, maybe moreso, than playing.
the painter doesnt use every color all the time.

One of my big problems recording things by myself is the desire to make each step sound bigger to make it sound complete. By the time I add in other stuff I have a delicious stew made of poo.

Recording and painting a picture are similar, you have to know when to say "enough".

if he did that, every work would be a big black square.
and now for my new piece......big black square.
looks just like all my other works.
but its different i tell you.

The consensus seems to be that in all things that matter, less is more.
