Tommy Emmanuel for sure and I'll second what @stratman323 said about Eddie Cochran. That guy is awesome. My band does a version of "Something Else" and I just love that tune.

John Martyn did some cool stuff in the 70s with effects on his acoustic. Stephen Stills got some of his acoustic tone by compressing the signal ( mic'd up guitar) during recording.

I like Monte Montgomery’s acoustic electric tone. He gets a lot of mileage out of his old Yairi.

I think Michael Hedges, even on a little parlor, really nailed some beautiful tones with his Fingers.

I’m always trying to get the 69-71 Mick Taylor/Keith Richard tone. They were using off the shelf Gibsons.

Probably my all time favorite finger picked acoustic sounds come from Jorma Kaukonen, Doc Watson and Dave Van Ronk.

I like the Nick Drake "dead string" sound but again it's not an effect. My OP was that some electric players have certain fx that stays with them but acoustic players don't.

Clapton has a mean acoustic blues tone.

I was going to mention Eric Johnson's acoustic tone on his recent acoustic tour. It was truly wonderful. I was really impressed with the tone of his Maton acoustics. But in all honesty, a lot of it probably had to do with the pedal board he ran everything through. That touch of delay and then his use of a L.R. Baggs Acoustic pre-amp probably has a lot to do with why his acoustic sound is unique.

    That really is incredible.
