This is one of the first full reviews (by Shawn Tubbs) of the Friedman Dirty Shirley pedal.
I like it - I would say if the Friedman BE-OD is more of a distortion pedal the Friedman Dirty Shirley pedal is more of an overdrive pedal.
Anyway, both of them have the Friedman sound which is the fat and saturated Marshall modded sound.
Your decision which one you like better.
The bad news for me is it seems I like both of them.
Another great pedal by Dave in my opinion.
Give me the Dirty Shirley all day long.
How do you like it? xD

    Life is good,

I watched this demo yesterday, and am already gasing for one. First things first though. I gotta get my hands on the new Carbon Copy Deluxe.

as Robin knows, i have my BE-OD on order... with any luck, this could turn into a Friedman pedals love affair!

    This sounds great too!

Another comparison of the Dirty Shirely pedal and the BE-OD.
As both the Dirty Shirley and the BrownEye share the same preamp let me add that the BE-OD has the extended HairyBrownEye mod installed (the clipping diodes which aren´t really diodes - well, it is a bit of a secret ;)
The Dirty Shirley is just the BrownEye with the added mid knob which is missing on the BE-OD (I don´t need it on the BE-OD).

    All the best,
    Robin

    wow, that last vid..

    maybe the volumes weren't matched,
but the DS sounded much beefier than the BE...
    like, by a mile.

Yes, to me it sounds like the BE-OD pushed the input of the amp too much - it really has high output. It can drive the power stage of my ENGL Blackmore easily. He dialed it back compared to the DirtyShirley but maybe it was too much.
Another thing could be a bad input tube (microphonic) in the amp - if he used a tube amp at all(I guess).
Trust me, the BE-OD sounds FAT and ballsy.

    All the best,

I am convinced Dave Friedman is King Midas re-incarnate, everything he touches turns to gold.

Can't think of one thing he has ever put out that I didn't want.

Damn. I still want the BE.
    Someday.
Robin, your recommendation on this is a big endorsement.
I’m thinking I can use a clean tube amp and the Friedman - is that right? Amp in a box?

I really didn't need to see this. I have the BE which hasn't left my pedalboard since I got it. Admittedly though I have the internal trim pot turned all the way down and with the gain knob at zero I can still get a decent crunch. Have a Friedman pedal that is a proper OD pedal is just downright scary.

    Screw it...it's only money :p

yea, i think that if the BEod is a bit too much,
the top end of the DS is probably perfect!

and i tend to run these pedals into an amp that is already set for a little 'Hair',
so the lower gain would be my option.

    Thanks brother!
Yes, Friedman pedal into a clean tube amp. In fact you could also use just a tube power amp to make a huge sound.
I connected that thing to my power stage of the ENGL Blackmore and it sounds awesome - as you know, watching my video on YouTube.
I also connected it to my Peavey power amp Classic Series 60/60 (stereo power amp which has 2x60W in stereo connected to two cabs - setup was guitar->FriedmanBE-OD->Peavey power amp->4x12 cab left and right.
The PV Classic 60/60 is the 5150 power amp stage at 60W per side (stereo setup) and it really destroyed with the Friedman BE-OD.
Those pedals are really worth the money - they are expensive though - you get what you pay for.
Yes, David Friedman is the God of tone in my book.

    All the best,
    Robin
