My band has a little gig next Friday, for the telethon. It’ll be in a 450 sq ft (40m2) tent, and rain is predicted. The main activity in the tent will be food service - we’re just a bonus. :D I was thinking of bringing my new DRRI.
But I am wondering a few things:
-should I schlep it to band practice this week, on the assumption it’s best to rehearse with the same equipment?
-if it’s raining, I need to protect it (and don’t - yet :whistling: - have a flight case). Any tips? I’ve got heavy-duty garbage bags, as well as plastic sheeting.

It also is rather heavy, but I need the workout anyway...

yes, try to practice with what youll be using at the gig.
and yes, take some stuff to cover amps just in case.

Thanks, Kelly...I know these questions seem obvious but I am a bit worried about lugging the amp around in the rain...on the other hand, this is what I bought it for, it shouldn’t be stuck in my basement...

just make sure to protect the amp. if you have to use a hefty bag, so be it.
its just better to know your gear.

get an old towell, cut a slit for the handle, then put it on the amp. then put the hefty bag over it. you should be able to grab the handle through the bag.

Out of curiosity, is there a platform or stage or will you be standing on the ground?

i thought it said " gig in tent in rain forest" so first i was wondering where you plug in and then why i never knew there was a rain forest in france!

i am going to be the most senile guy ever!

or you could set up big fans in Normandy - blow that crap back to sea... play in the sunshine (i think plastic garbage bags are the primary basis for all improvised rain gear)

    hope you a good time!

I’m not sure but I suspect the ground, probably with a tarp/rug. I’ll bring my Quiklok amp stand as well.

    Thanks!
I wish we could blow the rain away. It’ll be at night so sunshine is out of the question.:)

It is a great idea to practice with your actual gig gear, whenever possible.
And i always carry a couple of thin plastic painter's tarps.

I'll go against the popular opinion and say that in that situation I'd take a backup amp, not a brand new expensive one.

@henderman At first glance I thought it said rain forest too, and I'm sure I'm not senile. Or if I am, would I be able to tell?

    Be very mindful of grounding.

If you have access to a wireless mic, I'd highly recommend it. I got juiced from a mic in 74' or 75', tweren't pleasant in the least.

since you caught it at the title and did not have to realize a rainforest can not be located as far north as france like me before you looked again i think you are safe!

Thanks for this. My drummer works in lighting for a television station so he should be able to make sure. I’ll mention it to him.

    Good luck with the show!

I saw Floyd (only) once. It was a stadium show in the pouring rain. I was sitting in 2 inches of water, I know water was hitting the stage, fanning everybody, Rick Wright was covered in clear plastic. When he was singing, spotlights lit up a pile of plastic. The show must go... on.
