There’s one metaphor in particular that has come to be taken quite literally, but I’ll just keep it to myself this time around.

Or tremolo bar for that matter. It’s a vibrato mechanism.

Ugh. This is the worst. When guitarists say tremolo or vibrato, you have to have a conversation to figure out which way around they mean.

The whammy bar gets its name from here:

    ‘Wham’ by Lonnie Mack.

Folks wanted to know what that device (Bigsby, I believe) on that strange V-shaped guitar was so they could make those sounds as well.

Whammy bar is a very apt name.

Mixing up tremolo and vibrato is one thing. Copying that mistake knowingly and consistently is stupid.

Some people get upset when people say “ so and so plays with no emotion,” but it really doesn’t phase me.
Probably because I have no emotion, in my soul or in my playing

That's a pet peeve of mine.

A watt is a watt is a watt.

It is a very precise scientific measurement using specific mathematical equations. Physics does not change just because your amp has tubes in it.

Tonewood. Why not just say "wood"? Is "tonewood" a special wood engineered for a specific type of tone?

"Dating a guitar" - I think a nice dinner and a movie usually works well..

I figured "headroom" was probably a technically correct word. But it always reminds me of Max Headroom:
