    LOL,

R1. Careful there young man, that's called soliciting, & is an offense...

R2. People are people, & that's a good question that you answered in your opening post !...People listen with their eyes...If we can hum a simple catchy tune back to ourselves whilst being also entertained by a pretty girl, the makings-of-a-success story are on-the-cards.

Alan Holdsworth is a great player, but he doesn't necessarily have the eye-candy ( lol ) to satisfy anyone but those that want to wait for the camera-man to focus on the fret-board, so we can learn a little about what he's doing.

There's lots of genre's out there, but generally there's Pop-music, & musicians music...The choice is up to you in what you want to play.

I suspect that life for a songwriter is becoming ever more difficult. I'm 68 and when I started to hear great music it wasn't accompanied by promotional videos. The only medium for music was radio, record or live, and in the very early days I could purchase the sheet music.

Today, you have to fight against the sexy video, which "enhances" the experience. You can hear the song at any time via Internet. You have so called talent shows like the X Factor which continually pump out the same type of music time after time, usually recycling songs from other artists. Very little originality.

Many, many listening to music don't hear the music they are listening to.

Hey if one thing leads to another during a pillow fight, that's a whole different thing. Don't blame pillow fighting

    Nothing is innocent anymore.

I think songs went through a very dark period...................all about drugs, violence and the like. My wife runs a dance school, has to be careful to play the cleaned up version of a lot of the latest stuff, not full of f***s and innuendo. Mind you, there's always other more wholesome stuff around.

Yes of course it has! How has this discussion made it onto a second page?

Absolutely, but in different ways. We men are simple creatures, show us some nice curves and some skin and we're all as happy as Larry. Women on the other hand are far more sophisticated in what they perceive as sexy.

Sex has always sold EVERYTHING... Why should music be exempt?

Well, I look at music like art. Vincent Van Gough's most famous painting 'stary night', how much sex do you see there?

For each painting you bring out that has nothing to do with sex, I could bring out a top 40 song that also has nothing to do with sex. Similarly, for each top 40 song that does involve sex, a sexy or suggestive topic or a lightly dressed female singer, I could show you a famous painting that does the same.

Always. Women are the largest consumer group. They want to see the successful formula for being successful, so they study women performers to emulate [same with fashion trends]. Guys want to see the successful female, so they prefer women performers - even if they don't buy the products. Women will trigger on what the men like, and buy the products. Dispite the bias in Emmy and Grammy awards, Entertainment is really all about the women.

No, not according to Ella Fitzgerald. And as Whitney Houston once commented "When God gives you a voice, what other gimmick do you need?"
