Dammit so much...
...that is all...
Not personally, though I know a few people that have.
I stopped using Fleabay years ago. The place became a cesspool.
When I was young and stupid. I ran into an international rip off ring. Glad I learned my lesson then. That was several decades ago.
Just one B. S. Thing from China...
I think three times now in the umpteen years I've been using ebay. Each time it was a private seller not being completely honest in their item description and thus the item either not being as described or not the advertised item at all. On one neck, I ended up sending it back and getting a refund, but the others I just figured caveat emptor to myself and moved on.
Because of that I only purchase from known businesses now and have so far been very lucky in my dealings.
I was an early adopter of ebay. I bought and sold dozens of guitars, saxophones, keyboards and other items. I used to sell sheet music there too and had a pretty good business.
I saw the train wreck coming and bailed out early too.
As The Duck said, that place is a cesspool.
I used eBay back in the day when it was pretty decent and legit. I bought and sold a lot of guitars and equipment and never had an issue.
But I will say I’ve heard horror stories but never experienced any.
I remember a couple years or maybe 10 years ago or so ago a big scamming thing going on where for example maybe a guitar case was being sold but the title and pictures would lead you to believe it was the guitar and case. The price as well reflected the cost of a used guitar you were looking at -but- hidden or worded so ever slightly within a long written out description was stated case only. Again the price, the guitar pictured in every pic with the case and the title leading you to believe you were getting the whole deal. I think the price and title were the big things. Sometimes the wording it was only for a case only was worded so funny or so small compared to the other description you didn’t see it.
Anyways yeah. Gotta be very careful. Read carefully and ask the seller lots of questions.
I have pretty good luck with ebay.
A car way back about 15 years ago. Bought a Volvo 760 wagon from Chicago. The guy had lots of pics and even a good video. Won the auction and drove up there from Indianapolis. May as well have been a different car and I should have walked but I paid the guy and drive it home. Total POS.
I learned a valuable lesson. I should have left it on the porch for a few days to make sure it wasn't roach infested. lmao
Yup. Lost out on a return that somehow "didn't show up."
You move on though, most of my eBait experiences have been positive.
I've had pretty good luck on there myself .
If not for buyer protection Ida got hosed on a pedal last year
Well, on closer inspection I didn't get totally hosed. Just got dribbled on...
I don't know if you're more likely to get hosed as a buyer or a seller.
Well, yes, I do.
On closer inspection, it doesn't look so bad. Lots of cleanup on this 87 MIJ strat
Still waiting for the 15 dollar humbucker I ordered from China. Should have ordered from GFS.
Many years of both buying and selling. So far so good.
I decided to go on eBay and buy a Gibson SG. I had never been on the site before and even opened a PayPal account to pay for it. I was high bidder on a beautiful cherry one with about an hour to go.Then all of a sudden they suspended my bid and told me that I was indefinitely suspended from the site. I called them and they wouldn't even tell me why. I have never bought anything on there before so I just said to hell with them.
I've been lucky.
