    Hi friends,

I am a complete beginner guitar player, 52 years old, started learning about a year ago. I have been lurking around for quite some time. Nice crowd here, I learned a lot.

When I started I got a low cost student guitar from the Brazilian ebay, but it was good enough. Except for the pickups, which were very noisy. A friend that was coming from the US brought me a set of Seymour Ducan pickups which are wonderful. After installing those and isolating the pickup cavities with copper film the guitar turned out to be very nice.

So, I have lessons, learned a bit, already know the five pentatonic shapes, imagine that, all five... Then I decided to get a better guitar, but that is the subject of another thread.

Anyway, thanks for having me here, thanks for all the info, I'll stick around, maybe someday I will even be able to contribute, who knows...

    Sergio.

Welcome Sergio, what city are you from? I've been to Bahía and Río and it was a unique experience, even for some like me who's born in Cuba.

Nice. Apparently it is worth between US$50.00 and US$100.00 in the local market.

Belo Horizonte, near both Bahia and Rio. Well, near in Brazilian terms, maybe the same in US terms.

Never been to Cuba, but the culture is very very similar, food, music, and other things.

Very similar, I particularly enjoyed the music, it is so rich, it sounds so good and the culture has so much support from the local authorities that I was kind of disappointed when I was back in Cuba listening to the local radio stations.

Belo Horizonte, what a beautiful name for a city! Can you post pictures?

    Yes, of course!

Belo Horizonte is turning 120 this month. It is a large city (about 2.5M people), in the mountains. Because of this fact, everywhere you look there is a different horizon, therefore the name.

We have a beautiful lake, Pampulha lake, close to where I live, and to Mineirão, home to the infamous 7x1 game against Germany in 2014

Because of the mountains, not high mountains, but *everywhere*, I like to think of BH as a 3D city

    And a night view

Because it is such a young city, most of the architecture is modern, such as these, the first being the Pampulha church and the second a famous Oscar Niemeyer building

And, being in the mountains means that about half an hour from the city you can get to places like these

    Which is why I have a 4x4 car... :)
