    Hi fellow-strattalkers,

    Simple question.
What is this? And (more challenging) what does the colour-code say about values?

I'm having a hard time identifying this (pre-amp) component. Or at least its values (I'm pretty sure this is a capacitor).

I read the colours as (top to bottom)
    Orange, Black, Red, Brown.

    Help!!

    (much appreciated!)

Just as a bit of trivia. That is Philips van Eindhoven in Holland, so RobZ69 the factory is not that far away from you!

Indeed, although I suspect nowadays production in Eindhoven has either ceased completely or has been outsourced to some low-cost location;)

    Thanks.
I have since replaced the tropical fish, but they turned out not to be the problem (as the volume of the second amp channel did not improve).

The replacements I got are physically much larger 'tone caps'*, the only 33nF ones I could find at short notice (and they are rated 400v in stead of 250v). Which I hadn't noticed from the pictures when ordering them....;)
Luckily the amp has room aplenty.

By trial and error I found the 'offending' cap, and as luck would have it I had a replacement (although rated 50v in stead of 25v)
So both channels are now in working order.

This is the amp, by the way.

Thanks for the info and update. I remember the thread and that old amp. Great you got it working again. Or still working on..

    All the best,
