I just had a amp head given to me. It’s in very good shape but have no idea of its make or history.

    It’s a 2 wire plug
    It’s made in Canada
    It’s tube.
The “grill cloth” looks very VoX like.
    I’d guesstimate 60-70s ish...

Anyone have any ideas on what this is?

Edit: I have just found an identical head less the painted on name and different colour grill cloth made by...Rivera amps”. No info other than that so far.

It looks similar to this Cobra amp, possibly with the grill cloth changed. Apparently Lifco made generic amps and put brand names on them for companies that contracted to buy them, Cobra being one. It almost has to be a Lifco with the sudo Blackface panel and the single volume control for multiple instruments.

Edit: I found this Marlin amp that almost certainly is another Lifco product. This one looks like it matches yours very well.

There's almost no way to know what name was originally on the amp, since so many companies resold Lifco amps.

So far, Inhave found this exact layout about as a:

    Pepco Riviera 725
    Rogue 725

So far they all have silver cloth and a logo in the middle of the plate.
    It’s apparently a 25 watt head.

    I’m still looking......

@Triple Jim , yup they look close. The made in Canada is what has me wondering. First thing I thought of was Garnett but this isn’t one of those me thinks.
It looks like a mass produced amp with different logos on it or copies?

Yup. I have found “ Marlin” which is identical with the same missing logo and same grill cloth colour.
I have also now found the “Rogue” with the same colour cloth but with a logo.

It’s unclear if the logos were decals or painted on, Some variants have a plate on the cloth.

Indications are that similar amps were “stencil”amps...branded differently. Wow, first I have heard of that for amps.
Some write ups refer to them as being similar to the Princeton and have 2x 6v6, 2 x 12AV7s and a 5AR4 rectifier.

*Once identified the next quest is to find out what an went underneath it....and to track one down....:(
Meantime once it gets a checkup it’s going to run into the Marshall cab,

    @Triple Jim , great page!

I suppose it's not very different from Danelectro making amplifiers, putting "Silvertone" on them, and selling them to Sears, but also selling them as Denelectro and possibly other brands.

I have actually found a speaker cab for it. Seller says it’s the Bass cab and it has 1x 15” speaker in it.
I haven’t found details on weither it differs from the guitar cab or if there the same.?..

So far the help you have provided was very beneficial.

Aye that’s a Beautiful model...Et-320? It has an extended neck with 22 frets I believe.
As a gear head ...any pics?

My hunt for them has been narrowed to Canada due to the Rosewood fingerboards.. My on going quest is for the 2 pickup and the 3 pickup Teisco Tulip....and of course a Spectrum....lol
For some reason I really like the Tulip design.

    Cheers

in the 60s and 70s montreal was huge in the tube amp game

They were making amps for many different makes and companies.

the majority of the amps were clones of famous fender builds.

they are usually fun amps to play with! congrats on a nice freebee

Thanks Jimi. I got it and one of those cheap and deadly little 3-tube amps around the mid '80s from a friend who was going to take them to Good Will. I don't think the original owner played it much, and I probably added less less than an hour to that. It sat in its hard case until recently when I cleaned it up and sprayed DeoxIT in the pots and switches. I put an isolation transformer in the amp and changed the cord to a 3-wire grounded one so it's usable too.
