if I had one with a poorly placed contour body slide I wouldn't clean it either :p Nice guitar, but it sure is filthy..... must be one of those barn/attic finds that you hear about lol

I wouldn't pay more than $100 bucks for it.... unless they clean it, then $200 seems fair :D

Looks like some rewiring done on this, plus a new switchcraft switch, refinished neck and new decals.
Butt of neck obviously not touched, but why so much paint on it?
Nothing majorly wrong here, but it does seriously affect value

Good day, All! Yap, I could see and play this one Sunday with the owner. I couldn't notice that the wiring of this guitar was something wrong. I knew the 5 ways switch was replaced with the original one. George's Rocky??? I don't even know the typical Rocky sound,,, Anybody tells me his characteristic example what Rocky sounds like. your suggestion is really appreciated. Anyway he brought fender blues junior tube amp, I don't remember well the name of the amp, but it was a small tube amp. The tone is what you expect from the strat of this era. Not too bad, I liked to play it on my favorite Bassman 59, but it was OK.I would rather eric's tone of derek and the dominos, but I love both. The owner told me refinish of the neck was done in 1974 and put new decal at that time. Was found in a pawnshop at some point. Maybe I say the finish of the body was not so filthy as shown in the picture. He cleaned up before I took a look.Again, tone is a kind of magic, this one rings, rings, rings! Now we are still in negotiation....

This is all sounding good, because the story fits together. In 1974, no-one would have though twice about refinishing the neck on a guitar that was maybe a bit tatty but not very old. Same with the logo/decals. If the neck had been put back on before the lacquer had fully cured, that would account for why there is some of the body paint stuck to it. I really hope you land this one picapoyo. :thumb:

I say rewiring, because of the two black wires on the edge of the volume pot (not the pickup wires).

Should have only one, going from the case of the vol pot to the output jack and then another from the output jack, passing through the control cavity / rout and on to the trem claw.

Does anybody know if this rewiring has effect on the sound or tone?

If the body finish is original, that seems like a fair price to me.

One thing that does not look right to me....is the colour of the body under the pickguard. Normally, all OW were 'white' when they were sprayed and in time some of them started to yellow, while others stayed white. But, in any case, I have never seen an OW with a darker shade of white under the pickguard. Usually the area under the pickguard is lighter in colour, not darker....

Georges Rocky was used on probably all of Rubber Soul, and likely Magical Mystery tour and Pepper also (Although George did use an SG on a lot of Pepper). It's hard to point you in the direction of a specific song apart from Nowhere Man. The solo on that song was all Strat... For sure.

You can see Rocky at the beginning of this video

Problem is that, looking at the pictures, there was not such a colour (like the one you see under the pickguard) back then....too creamy to be desert sand or shell pink.
It reminds a lot the "vintage white" colour used on Avri's made from 1982 on....
