Courtesy of Guitar Center Rockville, MD. They had this VM70's listed as "Used Squier 2010s Stratocaster Solid Body Electric Guitar Black. Condition: Good." After tax and shipping it came to $105.38.

I don't need this, but at that price, it will be super fun to upgrade the heck out of it and get the body painted white! I've already got a loaded pickguard with high quality pots and pickups. Here's hoping this one has a neck on the thicker side.

It's beautiful all-black... why paint something so good looking?

It won’t be a hack job. I’m jonesing for a white Strat with a nicely ambered neck.

I’ve had a black American Standard Strat since 1995 that I sold after acquiring a 2013 Fender Japan FSR 1954 Reissue. Since it’s 2-tone sunburst, it looks black from my vantage point.

If this VM70’s turns out to have an acceptable neck profile, then putting a full size block in it, upgrading the tuners and string trees (which I will only do if the ones in it now aren’t sufficient), replacing the pickguard with my loaded with the pickups of my choice w-b-w 3 ply one, and refinishing the body white will make this guitar very different from the one I’ve got now. Thus, making it, in my view, reasonable to have a 2nd Strat.

Don’t know about the strats, but the vintage tuners on my VM Jaguars, I’ve had no complaints with.

Yeah...I’ve gotten very used to the vintage tuners in my Japan Strat, so if these are stable, I won’t change them at all.

Oh, fwiw, I changed the block on my squire to a GFS "full size for imports." And I can't even tell. It may feel good to have it there, but that's about it. Didn't cost much so nothing lost.

Nice - from what I've read, there's not much to upgrade. I'm pretty sure I'd be happy with it as-is, if all works well.

Just received an email from GC this morning saying that the picture attached to the sale item was incorrect along with a photo of the real item for sale. Then they asked if I still wanted to make the purchase. It was an HSS, rosewood board Affinity Strat.

    I passed.

    Figures. Bastards.

Isn't that a bait and switch, or false advertising? Either of which is illegal.

I told them that I understand mistakes happen and that, in reality, they should absolutely honor the price for the VM70's as shown in the photo. I don't expect to hear back.
