Worked fine until Saturday night. Royal Spa wants $250 to have a tech replace it, but I can buy the part from them for $80. Handy dandy youtube videos show it to be a pretty easy DIY repair. Hopefully I can get to it without having to go under the deck. Looks like I know what I'll be doing tonight. I know, first world problems.....

My coffee is too hot and my manservant has the day off. Now I have to blow on the coffee myself :(

Ours blew a pump some years ago. I tried to get Miz Diane to authorize ripping the whole thing out and decking over the hole. Cost $500 to repair and we used the damn thing just twice after that. Monday, the crew lifted it out of the hole and threw it into the backyard. They'll take it to the dump. Hole is getting decked over. Perfect place for wrought iron table, umbrella and margaritas. Might have to get a little cart for the margarita pitcher, ice, etc...

We rarely use ours either, maybe once a month. It's a big one too, holds 10 people. I spend more time draining/cleaning/refilling it than I do sitting in it, but it's nice to have when you want it. My manservant doesn't dare take a day off! As if.

Is it the same type of element that a water heater uses that is a lot less than 80 bux at the regular hardware store?

    My house.
We use our frequently. Mrs Amstratnut and I run and cycle. Plus I have a not so great back. The hot tub helps a lot with aches and pains.

Weve spent a pretty good amount repairing and replacing stuff over the years.

    Next up, replace wood siding.

I've got lots of aches and pains as well, fortunately we've got a large jacuzzi tub in the upstairs master suite.

Speaking of hot tub heater elements, is there a way to bypass the "governor" or whatever it is called on them that limits the top temperature at 104? I could use mine to be 1 or 2 degrees hotter...

Mine is out too, we used to use it a few times a week. The install is easy but getting the spa pack out of mine to replace it has proven problematic.
Thanks for the reminder to get on that!

Only thing I do not like about having a spa is when the wife lets her flaky skinned friends in it.

Not sure about the governor, mine maxes out at 105 which is already too hot to enjoy. I keep it at 100-101.

Hey, if I can switch out the blower in my furnace, you can handle a silly little heater element....

    I'll let you know.

This thing has been staring at me for 5 months...daring me to approach. All because a tech doing a service said that the "seal is broken and it's leaking oil"... only $450 to switch out a $100 part. Thing is, I can't find any evidence of the oil, like he had on his fingers when he called me back to see it ... o_O

And the blower has been going strong all winter...

    Go figure.

Imagine that. I had a heater guy out at the old house a few years ago telling me in the middle of a cold night that we needed a whole new system to the tune of a couple thousand dollars. We froze through the night and my wife was telling the tale to her boss the next day. He told us to check the $100 blower motor so she stopped at a place and bought one on the way home. I kid you not, 3 screws and a plug later and we were up and running.
