I have six Fender Strats all weighing about the same, you know, around 6 1/2 to 7 lbs, according to the bathroom scales. But.......the '98 MIM Standard Strat weighs in at a hefty 9 lbs. Why is he over weight ?

Most Strats weigh around 8 pounds. Bathroom scales are not good for weighing items that light. You need a postal scale that's designed to weigh up to approximately 30 pounds. I doubt that you have a strat that weighs in at 6 1/2 lbs. Maybe a Tele but that would be rare.

My new homebrew Strat weighs in at 6.8 pounds. It's crazy light and a joy to play.

Jump on the scales without your guitar, take note of weight, then jump on with the guitar and check the difference. I have very accurate scales in the bathroom so i can get roughly the right weight.

Mine looks to be a hair under 8 lb on the 20# spring fish scale I've got. I like it. When I pick up a light strat, it just feels wrong.

A light guitar takes some getting used to, but after a 4 hour gig your back and shoulders and knees will thank you.

I use a postage scale to weigh mine, they range between 7lb 4oz and 8lb 3oz.

I just got a new MIJ strat(that I'll add pics to soon). The bathroom scales say its just under 4kg. Google tells me that's 8.8lbs. Aren't MIJ strats supposed to be lightweight because of the basswood?

Woods have different densities ... so it could weight anything, it's not uniform by the type of wood.

I have no idea about the exact weight of my guitars, but I know that the Fender Strat is heavier than my Gibson Les Paul deLuxe.

Both of my strats could rival a LP. I dunno. I thought lighter was better, but they sound good to me.

Nope... My Les Paul is from the Norlin age and those weigh like a ton. To be honest I wouldn't know how to weigh a guitar, I just hold them both in different hands and notice which hand needs to exert more force to lift it. My Strat is heavily customized, so I guess that the replacement parts are quite heavy. I think only the wood is original on it (maybe the frets too as I never had to refret it), but Callaham tremolo unit, TonePros locking tuners, 3 EMG SA-V pickups, EMG SPC, EMG EXG new Schaller MegaSwitch as the old was noisy and hard to switch, bone nut (though the pic still has the previous Graphtech nut), aluminum pickguard.
