That towards the end of next month I am finally going to have the next surgery on my knee. Granted nobody wants to be cut open but almost 2 3/4 years ago my knee was replaced and I tried to tell the doctor that it wasn't right 2 years ago. After two years of telling both the doctor and my employer that I needed to have something done because it was hurting all of the time they finally got me a new fitted knee brace when my knee swelled more than twice it's normal size and wouldn't go down for a couple weeks.
Finally the doctor realized that there was a legitimate problem and decided that a half revision was needed. That just didn't sit right with me since he was reluctant to even look at it and also since it's a work Comp. case. So I paid for a consultation with a knee revision specialist myself to find out that the last doctor actually used the wrong kind of knee for the injury that I had. The knee that was used is a nonconstrictive knee and relies on the two remaining ligaments to tighten up and hold the knee together. Problem with that knee is that all of the soft tissue in my knee was either torn and repaired or stretched beyond shrinking back so every time I take a step my knee comes apart then pops back together. The Specialist that I saw said that he will be using a knee that will be at least partially constrictive if not hinged.
It's only taken me 4 months of holding out and waiting out the city's legal offices to finally get their ducks in a row and let me use the surgeon that I want to use instead of the doctor that screwed me up last time...which is who they wanted me to see again.
All that said, I am both stoked to hopefully be able to walk straight again for the first time in almost a decade and I am bummed to have to go under the knife for the 7th time on this knee.

    Oh...hey...
Ask to get the old knee back...!?! See what they say. (I did and they said sure, but conveniently "lost" it.)

Good grief! That's a lot of ops to go through on the same knee. Let's hope this one is 100% successful. You've got plenty of things to do in September. :):thumb::thumb:

My 81 year old mother had knee replacement last winter.

Other than a setback during PT (she was doing more than they told her) she's fine. Now the other one bothers her- I told her it was because the other one has perfect geometry that is forcing her bad one to compensate. She's getting it done this winter.

And isn't the saying ducks IN a row?

Regardless congrats on your getting to the cause of your pain!

I still have the plate and screws that were in put in to hold the tibia together while I was on crutches for the first 6 months after the first surgery. I used three of the ten screws to hold it onto the bottom horn of Olic.

I plan to find a way to incorperate the old knee on him too. LOL
I hope so too. I have a really sweet ACME Fuzz Pedal that REQUIRES a LOT of stomping on. :p:D

Crazy thing about this is that I am still wearing that same brace on my leg that I was wearing when we met up at the Chiefs game back in January...Pretty much wear it from the time I get out of bed until I go back.

You did the right thing by getting a knee specialist’s second opinion.

Now go find a good Lawyer to deal with the first one.

Meanwhile, here’s hoping that this next procedure is successful and pain free beyond your expectations !

Problem is that this happened on the clock at work and it is all covered under Work Comp which falls under a whole different set of laws in the state of Missouri...that is just one of the many reasons why people here pronounce the name of the state "Misery".

My dad went thru this with his knee, it hurt worse after they replaced it, they never fixed it (kaiser).

My neighbor, a wonderful lady, had hip surgery (at kaiser) and when they were done one leg was 6 inches shorter than the other, that's a lot of inches.
Any way she went thru like 5 surgeries to fix that screw up, I was bringing over casseroles like 2 times a week for her to eat (she couldn't move around).
