    Hello lovely people,

a friend of mine has been offered to buy a Gibson Les Paul (because the seller wants to buy a Tele instead :D )

and has asked me for my help. The guy - that he knows quite well - got it from ebay within a "good deal" as he said, but there is no original receipt of a music store. He can buy it for 1400 Euro and it is supposed to be a 2015 Model. The automatic tuning system has been replaced with Grover tuners.

After a quick research I learned that serial numbers don't count much on Gibson guitars especially from 2015 on.

Checking the images with the Gibson Website I always come back to this model http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2015/USA/Les-Paul-Standard.aspx#LPS15T3CH1

Considering that he had to pay "only" 1400 Euro, this would be a pretty awesome deal. Can you give me your opinion on authenticity?

    Here is the lovely lady:

Phew you guys, that would mean less than half the price? on gibson.com it has a value of 3759 $. Why would anybody give it away that cheap? that's actually what made me doubt the offer..

Because 1: Used guitars are roughly 50-60% of what they cost new and 2: That guitar probably wasn't $3759. The 2015 models were quite unpopular and by the end of 2015 and beginning of 2016 the retailers cut the prices a lot just to get rid of them.

Even the Chinese counterfeiters wouldn't fake a 2015 model! Ha ha

    That too :)

Personally I like them though. Not too sold on the robot tuners but the rest I like just fine.

Yep, you can still buy 2015 models today for less than half the original asking price at some places like SamAsh. That was the year of robot tuners and bad quality control.

I'm sure they're fine, that was just too easy.

    Sad but true...nice one!

I hate/d the robo-tuners, I'm not real hip on the nut...brass or unobtainium, I dislike the signature and the hologram...BUT, I do like the extra width in the neck.

Looks legit, but, like all Gibson 2015 models, that scribble on the headstock ruined it for me.

Didn't the 2015 have the one year wonder wide neck?

The guitar is not original. Is the automatic tuning system that was removed in a box with the guitar? That mod takes away from the used price that it would have fetched with it still on the headstock.

Thanks a lot! The tuners come with the guitar the pre owner just dissembled it because at some points it automatically tuned down to Drop-D when Drop-D was not really needed :D:D

My friend played it and enjoyed so I guess this is good news! Thanks again!

It is a 2015 with Grovers fitted, the mod was popular for people who couldn't get on with/didn't like the auto tuners.

1400 Euros seems a lot for a 2015 as they were sold for less than when they were blown out.

Over here you can get a brand new 2016 Traditional for around the same price which would be a much better buy IMO unless of course your friend likes the extra wide neck.

The 2015's are a bit Marmite and would be more difficult to sell on than a Trad if your friend wanted to move it on.

    Try these....

IMO €1400 is on the high side. Long and McQuade in Canada cleared them out for €1600 and there are two over at gumtree for £1000. €1400 is not a great price.
