Perhaps rather rashly I have ditched laptops and towers and opted for a new iPad Air 2.

I have a Focurite Solo V2 to use as an interface.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can record guitar/vocal to GarageBand on the iPad. It only has a lightning connector for accessing any inputs.
I have tried the Focusrite straight in but it doesn’t even register on the iPad. At a guess I would surmise it needs more USB power than the iPad can give it.

I’m guessing I’ll need some sort of powered USB hub but I don’t want to get one if that’s not the answer.

Any advice would be most welcome.

    Thank you :D

Ps. I also have a USB midi keyboard I would like to use sometimes...

Thats a good point, I didn't think of the lack of aux input. I have the iPad Pro (not bragging) with the lightning connector only, too.

How DO we use an interface?

This may indeed be outdated info, but here goes.
The only interface that worked with my iPad was the iRig by IK Multimedia (the Amplitube folks)
Though that is just my experience.

Copy / Paste from the Focusrite Support page, I would think this applies to all Scarlett interfaces even though the 2i2 is mentioned here.
The Scarlet 2i2 is a class compliant audio interface. This means that it can use the core audio driver built into iOS. While not officially tested or supported, we would expect a Scarlett 2i2 to work with an iPad.

In addition to the included USB cable, in order to connect your 2i2 to an iPad, you will need:

You should connect the devices in the following order:

    1. Scarlett 2i2 to powered USB hub via USB
    2. USB hub to official camera adapter via USB
    3. Camera adapter to iPad
Once connected, you should be able to use your 2i2 as an output and input device for your iPad.

Does your Solo V2 have its own power supply when connected to the iPad?

Doing a search I found some links indicating the issue with the solo-iPad was related to power.

FWIW, I use a iRig V2 interface with my iPad and GarageBand and it works great.

I had a similar problem with an older iPad. I bought Apple’s USB adapter, but it only worked with devices that don’t use USB power if I rememeber correctly (data only).
