Mine had been a great amp. I almost traded it a couple years ago due to a bad case of gas cramps but it fell through. Now I'm more than happy I didn't get rid of it. The early 401 models had a couple issues with overheating which mine started to do a couple years after I got it. After some research I found that the problem was tgat the bridge rectifier was mounted flat on the circuit board anne's couldn't vent. Most people were buying new rectifiers and mounting them off the board then adding a PC cooling fan. I found that just extending the legs on the current one did the trick.
Then I popped a tube so I retubed it with all NOS Reflektor military grade 6p14p-EV tubes and 6N2P-EV preamp tubes. It has become the sweetest amp I've owned to date.

Over the last 28 years all I’ve done was put in G&L locking tuners, had a refret a couple years ago and recently had to replace the jack.
Oh yeah, and I’ve spray painted the original aluminum pickguard many, many times.

Squire Bullet Telecaster, completely done over. I couldn't stand to hold it right out of the box. It just felt like a toy. Dull pickups. I only bought it for the color.

Replaced the neck straight away. Flame maple, amber, rosewood with abalone dots. @Bodean came through with a nice set of hot tapped pickups. Then I needed a custom control plate. the_rhoadhouse eBay store made the control plate. Reverse plate, push/pulls for coil taps, treble bleed cap on linear vol, 5 pos switch. Bridge (no tone,) bridge w tone, bridge n neck parallel, bridge n neck series, and neck.

I finally have it all set, and quiet as can be. This thing is a bunch of fun. I played it steady for a week. I almost get now what all this Tele fuss is about.

Straight stock 2016 AmStd. It was the last 16 in my favorite store so between the price break for them wanting it gone for the 2017 models and the price hike that came with those I saved about 500 bucks

Well I'm firmly back in the Tele fold with my new 2018 American Special.

Can't call myself Textele without a Tele! :whistling: Been without one for way too long.

Changed the Texas Special bridge pickup to a Highway One "Texas Tele" Vintage Hot bridge flat pole pickup. It is one throaty bridge pickup, almost approaching P90 territory, but backs down well too.

Put some Fender locking tuners on it and changed out the Saddles to Marc Rutters Brass Straight, Slotted, saddles. I bend a lot and the slot not only compensate for intonation but keeps the string in place.

This one is probably my favorite Tele I've had. And I write better songs for some reason on a Telecaster.

Sorry for the poor pics, my wife needs to use her camera, mine is terrible!

EDIT: I need to do a proper New Guitar Day for this one. I promise I'll have MUCH better pics tomorrow.

Mine was a welcome back to Tele time too. My first guitar was a Tele but got stolen. Replaced it with my Strat. Kept meaning to get another Tele but life got in the way for a long time. It felt pretty darn nice to finally get another one

    Heck yeah! Congrats!

Gotta have a Tele. I don't know how I made the last year without one. They distill me as a player, I play differently on one.

OK, I was going to post in a different thread once it was 100% and set up, but can't resist Tele-Tuesday!
Brand-spanking new, just finished the build Sunday.
99% complete, still need to install the strap buttons and string trees.
Giving it some time with string tension on it before I move forward with a full setup, but it sounds and feels nice as-is and i'm not getting buzz at 4/64.

Body/paint provided by Guitarpaintguys (about 2 months from order to recipt.
Neck is a Fender Classic 50s Lacquer, Fender vintage tuners. Vintage Noiseless pups into the Baja circuit. Gotoh engraved bridge, control plate, and neck plate (those three parts alone were almost $300!), Tusq Fender curved nut (string height at the 1st is dead-on .030!)
I'm very happy with the way it turned out. My first Tele... or Tele-like object.
