Fenders custom shop is selling sets
    Handwound pickups

hmm I’m tempted but I already have two sets of Abby Yabarra
    Sets

They sound good and I love clean tones
But they are almost two clean for me.

    Maybe it’s how they go
    From
Dirt to clean is the real appeal.

I’ve always wanted to try her pickups but whenever I saw them
I never had the money. Oh well

Anybody have any of her pick ups?

Honestly I have a pair of the 69’s in a reverse headstock vintage white relic strat and they are very low output if you like that which I do. But there is really no difference between those signed 69 pickups and the general line pickups. Maybe quality is a little better in terms of solder and wax it the sound is there. The 59s and new fat 60s are great. You need to try the new v mod pickups they are really impressive. You like high output low output?

As far as her fat 50s go they sound just like regular fat 50s I know this for a fact I have a/b’d them and not a difference honestly. They react the same. Both guitars are rosewood CS American necks bone nuts nitro alder bodies Callaham tremolos pretty similar guitars. The biggest difference is her signature

I've had two sets of Josephina and one set of Abigail pickups. They were nice and the hype behind them
made me feel special for a minute or two. But I sold mine off before the price gets deflated due the Fender
glutting the market with them. They weren't that special!

The Abigail set is a better investment because Fender wasn't selling her stuff outright and she is retired.

They did put out those "Supervised By" sets a while back with "AY" signed on them, but Abby DID NOT
    wind those.

I'd save your money if you already have an Abby set with her complete signature on them...

    Not a complete set
    I have the initialed ones.

I like the way they sound but my two guitars sound so similar

I don’t want another 69 set awesome tone but I don’t need the redundancy.

I am looking to do a new build and a great set of pickups will Be the heart around which to build

    Lindy Fralin
    Tone specific
    Josephina

    Something special.

Of those three, Frailin has the rep to back up the hype.

Tone Specific keeps getting mentioned here and we all pretty much agree, its a shady marketing scheme. Ie: "charge a ton of money and peple with think they must be good".

I wonder how much of that extra profit she'll see.

The only way I'd pay $500 for her pickups is if she doubles as a guitar teacher and I get the pickups and weekly lessons from her for 4 months....

Pickups are starting to take on software for margin numbers...

What tone are you looking for? When I sold the Josefina set out of my #1 I replaced them with a set of TV Jones Starwood Strat pickups. I really like them better than the Josefina set and I made up $200 on the swap...

Lol. Fender deserves whatever grief they receive for such an obviously empty product.

I have 3 sets of hers in CS Strats. Best pickups I've ever played.

I'd never tell anyone how to spend their money and if you want a set of Josephina-wound pickups then go for it.

But for me, personally, I'd spend half of that amount and get Fralins, Lollars, Kleins. My favorite are the Strat pickups wound by Bobby Tyson at Tyson Tone. He's famous for his PAFs, but he winds some damn good single coils and he'll consult with you to get you exactly what you want out of them. I have a set in my AV '59 and am awaiting an SSH set for my CS G&L Legacy.

I have no affiliation with Bobby other than a happy customer: https://tysontone.com/

But, again, do what makes you happy. If you love those Josephina or Abby pickups, then go for it.

Like D'Angelo Barksdale says in The Wire when a snack-happy subordinate remarks that the guy who invented Chicken McNuggets must be rich:

"The man who invented them things, just some sad ass down at the basement of McDonald’s, thinkin’ of some **** to make some money for the real playas.... Now you think Ronald McDonald go down to that basement and say “Hey Mr. Nugget, you da bomb, we sellin’ chicken faster than you can tear the bone out, so I’m gonna write my clowney-ass name on this fat-ass check for you?”
