Just finished my Motorcycle Academy class/test and passed. Friday my certificate of completion will be ready for pick up at the Harley-Davidson dealer so Saturday I can go to DMV for my license. Hopefully my bike will be ready this week.

I’m sure this was covered in the class but don’t for one second let your guard down. Always anticipate that the other driver doesn’t see you even if you see them look your way. They will cut you off, make a left turn in front of you in a heart beat. 9 out of 10 times this is what will happen so be ready for it it’s a zoo out there. Good luck with your new Harley and riding experience.

Thank you kind sir. I saw it happen to someone riding a Kawasaki at an intersection. A bobtail truck was making a left-hand turn from the opposing side and I was next to the motorcycle rider. The truck didn't have the right of way and turned right in front of the bike which was laid down. Lucky the rider and the bike were okay. The driver in the truck sped away and I helped the motorcyclist. He was able to continue on his' way on his' bike. Scary stuff.

I had an 1800 VTX for 6 years.

Exactly why I sold mine. Cell phones have made riding SO much more dangerous - and the whole thing that makes motorcycles thrilling - is they're dangerous.

After I got t-boned a block from my house, knee smashed 3 surgeries - it sat in my garage for ~3 years, I rode it a couple times each summer, but....

Congrats and ride safe and watch out for dumbchit cell phone users.

POS, sorry I didn't mean to rain on your ride I mean parade - it's a beautiful bike

I have been riding since 1958 and have never had an accident so it can be done.

I divide my time between motorcycles and guitars. Fortunately I live in a mostly rural area so my riding is rarely in heavy traffic. I don't know how to reconcile the safety issue as I derive so much pleasure from riding that I can't see me giving it up. I have ridden from Florida to Alaska and toured around Europe last year for seven weeks without any issues. Some say it is only a matter of time but most of the people I know who have gotten hurt were on sport bikes going way too fast. I know hitting wildlife is a real concern but there isn't much you can do about that. Ban teenage females from using cell phones while driving or maybe just ban teenage females from driving in general . . . I guess for now the reward outweighs the risk. I can always stop but once I do it will be tough to get back into it. Don't want to grow old unless I have to.

I gravitate to the ADV style of bike as I grew up riding dirt bikes. I kind of need to get something with a lower seat height but the heavy cruisers don't really appeal to me so I am not sure what my next bike might be. Suzuki V-Stroms are dirt cheap and a couple dealers have Ducati Multistrada 950's marked down in price as well. I may just ride what I have and NOT add/replace this season.

That is one sweet ride. I traded my Harley Freewheeler trike last year and got a new Sportster 1200 Iron. I've been riding since 1965 and never been down. Watch out for the other guy and you'll e safe. ENJOY!!!

    Awesome Harley, looks great!

Now you are entering another sub-realm of GAS... woe betide the man without a big bank account.

50+ year rider here- I've survived with the following assumption always in mind: I assume other vehicles don't see me, or they DO see me and want to kill me.

Expect every other person on the road to do the wrong thing at the worst time. If you find your attention fading, stop and get off that bike. You are the only person out there looking out for you.
