I like big fat headstock at the end of a baseball bat neck.
I didn't even catch that..haha. Of course, I"m a little under the weather..so that's probably why.
OK, since my first Stratocaster (first electric even) is my '76 hardtail natural. Bullet TR, and I like it.
First partscaster I wanted a big headstock, RW board. Found on w/o the bullet TR. Didn't want to pay the $$$ for a CBS era RW board one.
Of my other ones I have smaller HS's, although a project Deep Purple Greatest Hits inspiration guitar will have a bullet TR big headstock RW neck.
I'm of the opinion that more mass on the end of the neck means more sustain, although it could just be my hardtail.
I have owned and played a few of both type headstocks, and I really never noticed any difference in sustain characteristics.
Small because #1) I have one, and #2.) that's how they started with it.
Yeah, and cars started with steam engines.
I think either the large or small headstock looks fine with a Strat. The large CBS headstock looks a bit oversize on the 24" scale Fender necks.
Size doesn't matter. Its not going to change your tone. Well not in your guitar anyways. Your woman may squeal a little more with the big headstock
I like the small. large ones make the guitar look unbalanced
Always preferred the original head stock.
The giant version does goes match up well with huge flares and tank tops though. Very much "of its time".
Anybody with any experience in the design or engineering camp will point out straight away that the large headstock is unbalanced aesthetically. You basically have extra/surplus mass where its not needed, doing absolutely nothing. Except of course housing that damn awful CBS decal.
Nah.. it was right in the first place. The balance was perfect.. until CBS decided it wasn't. Still.. we're all different. We can't all appreciate technical beauty. It is in the eye of the beholder after-all..
I agree with you. I guess that's part of why Iike it. It's... quirky.
Oh, I like quirky @Cerb ... love it. Just not those 'quirky' headstocks.. ha ha
I don't know, I like both, but I do think the big ones have a certain aesthetic appeal all their own.
One mans aesthetic appeal is another mans 'just plain ugly'. I'm defo in the 'ugly' camp re those headstocks.. but heh.. it is but a pimple on a beautiful bottom..
Like a hot woman with a big nose.
Jeez.. that made me rip..
I have both, I like the large best especially when played upside down
