Sunday is my birthday but I spotted this on Facebook right after the guy listed it. Meeting him after work at the GC by my house. Carvin CM140C with case.

One guitar? Yes I don't see me getting that other Strat on top of this.

I have no problem buying guitars up to $1K to flip, but to even consider keeping a guitar it has to be bought cheap. This one is only $150, and it's a birthday present. I don't sell birthday presents which is why I've always told my wife never buy me a guitar for my birthday. I told her that again this year but she said last night go ahead and get one. She feels a little guilty spending as much as she does on our daughter for various things like $5k for a 2 week summer course at Harvard, $750 for a 3 week online SAT study course, and then there's all the sports traveling that adds up to another $8-10K a year. Add to all that Carvins have always been some of my very favorite guitars. I had the bolt on version of this back in 2006. Heck I can't NOT buy it.

So you will be drilling no big holes in this? :) Happy Birthday and a real HNGD. I have never seen a birdseye body. Only necks.

Original owner too. Going to be impossible to replace that missing knob I'd imagine.

Fresh out of the case. The guy said one of the pick ups might not be working but of course he just had the switches in the wrong position. This is before cleanup as you can tell by the frets. Lots and lots of Birdseye all over this guitar.

I had the same guitar, but with dot inlays, less fancy headstock inlay, no Birdseye, and a mono jack. Stupidly sold it many years ago when I gave up electric guitar.

$150 for that is a steal. Congrats!

It did indeed clean up well. Looks better in person, has kind of a golden sheen to it that the camera doesn't pick up. Need to find some matching knobs. Everything works except the neck pickup is humbucker only, the mini toggle doesn't work in the single position. I also have to read up on how the stereo jack works.

A little more research tells me it's a CM140C. The block inlays and stereo jack make it that model.

Ok, I gotta ask: Are those frets designed to be flat on top? Is that just an optical illusion?

They appear to be flat in both the pre- and post- cleanup pics. But the shape is so uniform that it must be by design, right?

I believe they came that way. The brochure from 79 says "jumbo nickel silver frets are precision surfaced for lowest possible string action". Carvins have always been designed to have low action.
